Some said they can watch dvd movie without tech pkg, mine doesnt work. Can someone else confirm (W/O tech pkg)?

From what I read (I also don't have the tech package), it's not possible with out it.

I don't see why I wouldn't be possible...

It might be that it's decoded from the factory without the tech pkg...

My cd/dvd drive cant even read a mp3 dvd disc (my 2006 e90 could)

Well ... not sure if there is any hardware requirement... but if you check that value in your car then you can see if "video playback" is enabled or not...

and then you can try to change it and see if it plays.... if it doesn't then there might be some hardware difference between the 228 and m235

but unless somebody tries, we won't know...

I'll confirm tonight, but you should be able to play MP3's. My 2007 E92 did without issue.

Every DVD i put in it says unreadable

So what package do you have?
The standard options never listed the stereo as Dvd player, its list as cd/mp3

maybe that's why... it's a cd player and not DVD

Just verified mine (non tech package) it plays MP3's without an issue. It even shows the title and the artist on the iDrive (something playing a regular CD doesn't(only shows track 1, track 2, etc.)).

I do get an issue if I play a DVD though, it says No Disc.

Thanks, i think that non tech pkg will only get CD/MP3 (not dvd) player
