Check your tyre pressures!

Collected my car ( F80) in the UK and drove back to Germany yesterday - long story short - the car didn't feel great, felt a bit loose even at only 100mph. I was very disappointed to be honest.

This morning I checked the tyre pressures and the car had been delivered with slightly different pressures on all 4 tyres - all a few psi overinflated. Inflated to correct pressures today and the car feels much better.

Will post a full review in the next couple of weeks once I've had more time with the car and break in is complete- initial impressions are very good!!

Mine were 36 to 37 psi all around and the car was darty... adjusted and much improved. Tire pressure has a significant impact on performance, in my experience, both on the track and on the street (although moreso on the track).

ss134, did you check tire pressure at the tires, or using the sensors with numbers on the LCD screen? Thanks.

Remember too that you just heat cycled brand new tires too.

Checked on the LCD screen in the following morning when the tyres were cold. By the time I'd realised there may be an issue on my trip back the tyres were hot so couldn't check accurately.

I think the screen is fairly accurate as when I dialled in the correct pressures on the machine at the garage the following morning when the tyres were cold it deflated all of the tyres to the correct PSI.

It has made a huge difference.

Similar pressures to what mine came with- car felt very floaty at 100mph. What did you adjust to?

I take it the car does not come with a spare tire.
What happens if you get a flat tire and you are out of cell phone coverage to call for help?

You use the flat repair kit in the trunk. If the tire can not be repaired, then you probably should have planned ahead ( since you most likely knew where you were going and could have checked a coverage map, both ATT for the built in SOS and your own cell carrier, if different) and brought a spare or some comfy walking shoes.

The car doesn't come with a spare, this doesn't render you incapable of forethought.

32 all around... if I recall, that is what was noted on the door jamb.

Brand new tires need to wear in before their characteristics are normaliZed.

This includes a few hundred miles of driving in order to wear off a manufacturing coating and a few heat cycles to "set" the rubber. Heat cycling is when tires are driven the friction builds a lot of heat. And they retain that heat while driven until they sit and cool off. This is very important in track tires but still important in street tires.

Point being brand new tires don't drive like they will at 300 miles

Have you got the 19s? Mine state 32 front ( 2.2 bar) and 33.5 rear ( 2.3 bar).
How does it feel 32 all round, might give it a try.

Excellent question.
While you do have that "thing" in the trunk which supposedly fixes flats, you may want to explore other possibilities. One of which is to replace your OEMs with (horrors!) RFTs.

Yes, 19's. My door jamb sticker says 32 all around. They feel very good at 32 to me... grippy but still responsive without being too darty feeling.

Interesting how mine is different- just noticed your car is an M4 , that must be the reason.

My M4 came with 34 in rears and 32 at fronts....

Dropped rears to 32 so aligned all round at 32 psi (2.2 bar) as per the door tyre pressure sticker.

Just got my car back from the dealership after the 1200 service and they filled my tires to 37 psi. The door jambs say 32psi and were at 32 when I dropped it off. It was also high when I took delivery. Wondering why the dealer keeps over inflating the tires.

I had my 1200 service today as well and took the car straight to the Autobahn- car didn't feel right and when I checked they had also overinflated my tyres on the service to 40 psi. Dropped the tyre pressure and the car felt great again- very stable at an indicated 165mph!
