Rims: 18 or 19 ?

So, I too broke down and ordered an M3, and was struck by how hard they pushed the 19" rims. The sales guy was telling me all sorts of stories about how I could resell them in the aftermarket at a profit, etc.

While the 19" ones look more aggressive, my thinking was that 18" are more subtle. I also live in DC, which has a lot of potholes.

Thoughts?

(I'm new here, but I did try search first.)

I ordered the 19s. In some recent pics though the 18s look pretty good. 18" is more subtle and should ride more smoothly and save you some $. Some people think the wheel gap is too big on the 18, I think I would have to see them in person.

Maybe it's different for an M-car, but OEM wheels listed on ebay, craigslist etc. generally go for fairly cheap IME, as people look to trade to aftermarket wheels. I wouldn't get the 19" if the goal was to save money by "selling them for a profit", sounds like car salesman BS to me.

That poor car. We really need to get together and push through a petition to nuke Florida.

I went for 18's for the PA potholes and 2 compressed disks. I doubt I'll suffer for it.

Funny, I discussed an M3 order with a sales person yesterday and the same thing came up, with the sales person asking me specifically if I wanted the 19" wheel option.

My GUESS is that option is very profitable and they have coached the sales people to pitch it to all customers.

They've pitched 19's since 2000.

19's look better. //M car with tiny wheels. No thanks. It's $1,200 bucks.

Both have the same footprint, the 18" just has more sidewall I believe. So if you don't favor the cost or the look of the 19", no big! BMW has been pushing bigger and bigger for a while now, 20" on the M6 I believe? Doesn't make sense for track but I guess it sells well on the street.

18" are fine.

Order 18's, use them as track wheels.

Since the 19's are hideous, you can just pick out something from the aftermarket for the street.

They push it because the majority of BMW's are leased. They want lease returns with the right options so they will sell on their pre-owned lot.

There will always be a weight difference going up to a bigger or smaller wheel

Ordered mine with the 19" cuz I think they look a little better. I'd like a set of the 18" though for the track too. A lot more track tire options in 18". Anyone price the 18" set out from the dealer?

Go 19''s for every day driving and 18'' for winter or track setup.
