Head Unit Noise?

My 06 330i is making an interference noise from the speakers when the head unit is on and volume is not at minimum. No audio wire is plugged in the AUX input. The noise is off when HU is off or volume set to minimum.

Is this a defective HU or some problem with wiring or speakers?

I would have a hunch that its an amp on the way out bud. Start there. Or if you have a buddy with an e9x then try using theirs.
