I was warned...

So, today I finally got my car serviced at a local shop down the street from my house and when it came time to pay... Holy fuhhhhhh. People weren't joking when they warned me how much it would cost to get things fixed.

I had to replace a couple gaskets, o rings, oil filter and oil change done. Shit cost me $680!!

Says, "gasket - engine oil cooler to oil filter housing," and "gasket - oil filter housing to block" so both. Also needed a little antifreeze.

That's more than what I paid, but not by a whole lot. The thing is, they have to take a lot of things apart to get to the gaskets. Pay to play, I guess

The gasket parts you had replaced cost about $60 if you buy them yourself last time I looked. Then it's DIY if you're handy. I haven't done that one yet but I understand it's not THAT bad.

Change your oil and filter yourself in the future and save money there.

Also, you can ask for a quote up front before any work is done so you don't have sticker shock.

Give Bavarian Autotechs in Fullerton a try next time. I highly recommend them. The owners are former Saddleback BMW techs, and have had their shops for about 25 years. The shop is owned by a couple of German gentlemen. Very honest and really know their BMWs. I moved away from OC, and I miss going to them when I had my E30.

Yeah, he brought me over to the car and showed me what they were doing. Had to do the right thing to keep her in shape.

I was going to buy a cf performance spoiler today too... Really bummed out about that. Learning how to diy on European cars just seems and sounds intimidating.

If you have a friend that likes to work on cars, start letting him help you. He can teach you to do everything you just paid for and you can save a lot of money.

Just start with something simple like oil changes. You can do them yourself for about $60. I'm sure your friend would be glad to give you a hand.
