Hydro / Water Dipping Ink Patterns

For those not familiar with this process, here is a nice YouTube demonstration by a professional applicator. Go to 5 minute mark to see large exterior parts being dipped.

There is a company about 65 miles away from me that will do it professionally and guarantees their work. They will do the engine bay cover for $275, any pattern I like. Wonder how that would look in CF with all the logos still showing?

Got a second call from the company and said plastic texture parts have to be resurfaced (sanded) and primed before application. The ink from the pattern only works well with smooth surfaces, so that added another $125 in labor cost for prep.

See of you can find the old Wheeler Dealers episode with the blue Range Rover, they CF dipped a bunch of interior parts and from what I could tell just seeing it on TV it looked great.

I will inquire about the mirror covers as well, though the Chinese knock-offs are going for under $150 now.

How durable is this product? What I mean is how much pressure rubbing will take the pattern off?

It actually paint. Performed with what is called chemical etching onto the surface. Once it has cured, in a few hours, it is clear coated just like your car paint is to protect the painted surface. Think of it as getting a airbrush painting for your piece without the air gun.

I was working with a company a few years ago who made this technology and saw the process firsthand. I works really well on smooth surfaces. We tried it on polycarbonate cell phone cases and it seems pretty durable but it does wear. Possibly skin oils cause some wear but they use it on gun stocks too. I actually saw some auto parts manufacturers sent them for concept and show cars. Looked great.

My friend does it near me (USAWheels NorthEast NJ 20 minutes from NYC). We are planning to dip the front splitter and possibly the stock spoiler.
