Any way to fix this?

There's only two things in my interior that bother the hell out of me...this discoloration of the steering wheel emblem is one of them. Any way to fix or replace it easily/cheaply?

the only way to replace it, is to replace the entire airbag. That roundel, unlike the rest on the car, has 3 prongs that goes into the airbag housing and are bent and rivetted into place.
Think I got my cover from jlevisw.

from m3post,

you can always get vinyl stickers for it

Man. That SUCKS that they rivet the roundel into the airbag housing. That's an expensive roundel replacement...

I guess I'll look into the vinyl...

Typical BMW, either expensive or difficult, like battery replacement or all the warnings through the OBC that need dealer intervention. Disillusioned owner

I'm assuming its a safety thing..to keep the roundel from flying into the driver's brain when the airbag goes off.

I bought a high quality sticker to go over it and it looks perfect. Its got some clear plastic over it so it looks original not like a stick on

Pretty bad for a BMW.
I owned some way cheaper cars and never seen that kind of thing...is that from prolonged sun exposure or something got spilled...?

Here is your $5 fix: http://goo.gl/T3KdvS

Peel it and stick it on, you'll never notice that one is on top of the other.

Decal cheapest and easiest, new air bag cover (you don't need the whole airbag, but it takes a bit of work to get the cover off, I used a bunch of zip ties to slide under each clip and hold it unclipped and worked my way around the whole cover then slid it off).

Just make sure you get an OEM cover not a knock off - BMW seems to sell the covers in europe without the airbag in it.

Good point, and I could see that being why. It's a very good reason. Better to secure the heck out of it rather than have it be a potential liability in a crash. I don't blame BMW knowing how sue-happy people like to get in the states.

Does anyone know how this happens? Is it due to sun damage?

Only thing I can think of but I'm not sure why, it doesn't happen to other emblems.

I got the car with it that way about a year and 4 months ago and it's an '08

It comes from licking your steering wheel. Mine looks brand new.

I still don't understand how I see posts like this, I'm not saying BMW's have the nicest most quality interiors but my 2007's interior still looks brand new and yet stuff like this happens.

Yeah. It's bothersome that that this kind of thing happens to some people. I wonder if it was a bad production run of the roundels or something.

I'm still waiting on the sticker overlay to show up. Aparently right after I ordered that ebay seller who had thousands of sales and 99.8% positive feedback got his account limited by ebay and his store he'd had for well over a year shut down. I'm not sure what happened.

Acutally, it's wonderful that they rivet it. That way, when the airbag explodes violently, it doesn't launch a metal disc into your face!

But if you want to slap a sticker on top, that's your call...

My 07 has 18k miles and is like new and my steering wheel looks exactly the same. Doesn't really bother me though.
