Auto transmission question
I have a 2006 BMW 330i (e90) with an auto transmission and I was wondering if you could help me understand if the following is normal for the type of transmission I have.
Sometimes, under hard acceleration from stand still, the car seems to hold on to the gears longer revving up and i then get a sort of kick in the back feeling when it finally shifts. Also, under very light acceleration, it seems to hold on to lower gears for longer than necessary to the point, where the car starts to almost slow down at which point it shifts up and again I get the kick although it's not quite as hard as under hard acceleration. In regards to the hard acceleration and I am not talking about flooring it, I have noticed the following: when I let off the brake, I get two behaviours 1) the car jerks forward 2) the car stays still for 1/2 a second and then starts to creep forward. In the first scenario, accelerating hard will cause the issue, where as under the second scenario, the acceleration will be smooth. The transmission has been serviced recently with the oil and the sump changed. BMW tell me it's normal.

Try to reset adaptations and see if that makes any difference.

If you mean the procedure being talked about on the web, then it only makes it slightly smoother for a single journey. BTW, I have recently found out, that putting the key in, then pressing the start button (without touching any pedals) and waiting for around 10 seconds does the exact same thing.

IIRC, putting the key in the slot, stepping on the gas for 10 seconds resets the throttle body adaptations. In order to reset the transmission adaptations, you would either need an INPA software or a BT tool. Two different resets from what I've read on this forum. From the transmission symptoms you're describing, it doesn't sound too uncommon.

I'm pretty picky too. I've done a bunch of research on this forum regarding the transmission because at times, my transmission seems to hold the gear longer than I would want it to. However this is most common during slow acceleration like in parking lots etc. I've gotten used of it and just adjusted my driving to get around it.
