Hardwiring Radar Detector
I think it is time to start planning for the radar detector hardwiring in the M3/4. It is usually the first thing I do to my cars. I am a stickler to the Valentine 1 and the concealed display.
I installed it by tapping into the fuse box (driver's door) on my Acura TL and the Mercedes. In the BMW 330ci I used the power from the garage door opener. Just today I helped my friend install it on Audi Q5 and we ran the power from the fuse box in the driver's door. What are the options for power in the new M3/M4? I read about the 4 series and it sounds like the 3 fuse boxes are under the hood and in the trunk - so that is not an option. Thoughts? Experiences?

I plan on plugging in the Savvy into the OBD port and using it instead of hardwiring. And the Blendmount

Super easy, takes like 2 min ... i use the bluetooth thing for use with my Nexus 5 or Nexus 7s. I mount it just to the left of the RVM and it seems perfect there ... not in my way but an easy glance up. |

V1 install
On my E46 M3 many moons ago I installed an RJ-11 jack in the overhead console. Might try that again. What I won't do again is integrate the display in the cluster, though it worked fine after ruining one cluster!

I did something similar to what GregW did on my E46 M3, except I didn't install a plug and just hardwired to the garage door opener and the cable just came out of the the gap between the roof and the windshield. I also kept the extender module inside the space above the garage door opener, and then ran the wire to the left side of the car by tugging the wire between the windshield and the A pillar. Then the conceal display just sat between the windshield and the dash. I will try to do something similar again with my F80.

No. But I am considering it. For now I've got the V1 and the AL priority.

Where do you tap in the mirror? I looked at the mirror in my 135i and there is no exposed wire harness...
Hard wiring the V1 is the first mod that I want to do as soon as I take delivery of the M4! Thanks!!! |

The SAVVY automatically mutes the device at lower speeds... that alone is worth the price. As a non-permanent hardwiring method, it seems to be the best choice.

This is great. I'm in Dallas.
Anyone know of any good installers here for V1 integration and "parking system"? I used to do this stuff but not very cleanly so I'm happy to pay a professional. |

I should have access to f80/f82 wiring diagrams shortly and will provide info on what wires to tap behind the rear view mirror ... Plastic cover separates into 2 pieces and is held on with clips only
