Sloppy handling...
Hey guys, is it true that our cars must have run flats for good handling on an otherwise stock suspension set up? I ask cause I bought the car with non-run flats and the car isn't what I'd imagine a BMW should feel like on the bends.
Maybe it's cause I transitioned from an S2k but my BMW seems to feel as though it was a used Lexus rather than other BMW's I've been in. I have the sport package and recently replaced the thrust arm bushings, but that didn't do much... Any thoughts or input on the topic?

Coming from an s2k would certainly yield a feeling like that. My advice would be to buy a new set up. Most are around $2k but, from what I hear, worth it.

The stock run flats are terrible, rough and no grip but at least they have a very crisp turn in. I replaced mine with pilot super sports and it feels like a totally different car, and since changing out the suspension to h&r sport/koni yellow recently the car very feels confident corners now.

Absolutely not. The runflats suck. I replaced them with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3, and the handling could not be better (ok, better with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports). The runflats are designed to help you drive to a tire service center when you get a flat. They are not really designed for performance, at least not the stock runflats.

I've run the stock run flats, Hankook Ventus V12 evo's, Michelin A/S 3's, and Michelin Pilot Super Sports. They all handle way better than the stock run-flat tires with the Super Sports leading the group by far. Turn-in with the PSS is just incredible! For a spirited driver I HIGHLY recommend the Super Sports. The A/S 3's are great tires too - they last longer and they offer a quiet and smooth ride. The Super Sports offer almost as good of a ride but excel (way above and beyond any other tire I've run) in turn-in, stability, wet/dry traction, etc etc. FWIW: The Super Sports are SO GOOD that my 535i with the PSS out-handled my smaller and lighter 335i on Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's (which are also top 10 ranked Max Performance Summer tires). The PSS are #1 and they're on top for a reason - they truly blew the competition out of the water with these tires! Also, I never did a side by side comparison BUT I'm fairly certain my PSS' handled the wet better than my Hankook's or A/S 3's handled the dry.
