Left-handed Knurldurner. Don't worry about it unless the faciated knippling pin is missing...

Lol derp. I removed my cowl this weekend and I think mine looked grayish. I didn't give it too much thought though.

The serious answer? The rusty nub thingy is the exposed end of the blower motor shaft. The thing that looks like a curved waffle, is an inlet air flap.

Thx. Are they always rusty like that? Is that due to weather or humidity?

The blower motors tend to make noise when they get rusty. Frequently vehicles that have had the cowls removed by body shops for windshield replacement don't have them reinstalled properly which results in excess water corroding the part. Fairly common and nothing to worry about - may eventually start squeaking in an annoying way.

Yep mine was like that too when I was changing my cabin filter.

I was like WTF, but apparently it happens - I guess in between the condensation from the air-conditioning etc. it's bound to rust.

It is probably just plain steel so any exposure to moisture and salty air will make it rust pretty quick, they probably rust on the way over on the boat just like the broke rotor hubs like to!

Agreed. I hate the rust and discolouration on the rotors. Looks like crap.
