So what is the difference between an inspection and oil change?

From what I can tell they pretty much check the same things with the only difference being they top off fluids.

Oil change

Motor oil is removed and replaced with new premium synthetic BMW oil.
Oil filter is removed and replaced with new Original BMW oil filter.
Eco-friendly oil change, including elimination/recycling of oil and oil filters.
Service Interval Indicator or Condition Based Service is reset according to factory specifications.
Multi-point check, including brakes, power steering and air conditioning belts, air filter, and tires for wear and alignment.
Security check, checking the condition of safety belts and function of automatic-locking retractors, belt locks and belt buckles.

Inspection

Eco-friendly oil change, including elimination/recycling of oil and filter. Motor oil is removed and replaced with new premium synthetic BMW oil. Oil filter is removed and replaced with new Original BMW filter.
Multi-point inspection, including lighting system, battery, brakes, steering system, suspension, tires, coolant hoses and any body damage.
Security check of safety belts, condition and function of automatic-locking retractors, belt locks and belt buckles.
Replace micro-filter; remove and reinstall front splash guard.
Inspect and top off fluids: coolant, antifreeze windshield washer, power steering, brake fluid and level control system.
Service Interval Indicator or Condition Based Service is reset according to factory specifications.

Also, my inspection light came on what should I do? Just get a tool or something and reset it?

If you are going to a dealership, the difference is:
For an oil change, they bend you over the end of the couch.
For an "inspection", they bend you over the pool table.

Actually, after having my indy do my oil changes for 90 dollars I found out that BMW dealer only charges 79.00. Plus I get my car washed, star bucks coffee, cookies and coke.. I eat all their food when I go there and take some to go lol...

I can do my own oil changes for around 40.00 dollars but I really don't like fluids and I don't have a garage so it is a pain.

I just like to have my car checked out and be aware of anything that might need to be done. That is another reason I get oil changes. I am curious now tho how much do they check at the dealer during an oil change?

The "value service" oil change is just an oil change. They didn't give me a checklist for anything when I had it done. All they did was the oil and filter change, car wash, and adjust tire pressures.

I remember my in-warranty oil service would include a check list of things they checked, including tire tread depth and brake pad thickness.

Yep, for tread depth, try one of these for $15
http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/...Tire+Inflation
and the car has sensors for brake wear...
