Tire Life expectations?
This (F80 6MT) will be my first M Car.
It will be used as a daily driver with some spirited drives in the hills on weekends. Ignoring track days - realistically what should I expect from a set of tires using as a daily driver? Is 15,000 miles for a set realistic? Any Grandmas out there getting over 20K? Thanks. |

I've gotten 15k out of my PSS on the 135. Now, my car is not putting down anywhere near the torque or power of the F8X.
I'm hoping to get 10k out of them on my M4 cause the PSS ain't cheap. |

I think 15k should be doable. The PSS are fairly durable for the amount of stickiness. I have a set on my 335 and have about 90% tread left with probably 6k miles on them and that's with one day of autox in them. I'm thinking I'll get at least 20k out of them unless I go crazy with the auto-x.
Now hard launching a lot and then all bets are off. Edit: 5% of the 10% tread wear came from that single auto-x... Driving hard kills tires obviously. Normal daily driving and they'll easily last 20k IMO. |

The non M cars have run flats and yes, those last forever and a day, even the summers. I could see 35-40k off of those honestly. My set has about 8k on them and 2 auto-x days and easily have 20k "normal" miles left on them. One of the auto-x days done on them was on a bad surface that took chunks out of them, otherwise I'd estimate even more wear left on them.

With normal daily driving my tires lasted 12k miles before change. Mine came with Continentals though.

I hope to be a grandma some day, but I don't think that will help the tires. I've given up, I don't bother to keep score how long they last, and I use the metric system in these just to make me feel better.

Got about 20k on my E92 M3 including track time, AutoX, skid pads. Driving hard always. They probably still have more than 50% left on rears. Best tire yet.

30k fronts, 15k rears, street driving only but aggressive driving at that.
PSS are nice wearing tires and as long as BMW didn't give it a screwy alignment stock (which they have done before), you'll get 15k out of a set of rears and figure double that for fronts. Now that being said, it sounds like these are somehow a unique formulation of PSS - else why would Michelin need to produce ~3864 different prototype sets? So who knows. |

I had cord showing at 15k on my rears. Fortunately it never rained in the part of CA I was living at the time so I never noticed that lack of wet traction

Well, I'll be getting a new set of wheels with a slightly larger set of PSS. I plan to split duty between winter/summer with the stockers.

Ok, so let's say for a moment I appreciate people being skeptical of my 30k front/15k rear comment and I'm a patient human being.... here's my real world example:
I put 17k on the rear Michelin PSS on my e39 m5 which was running around ~415 crank hp and maybe ~375 lb/ft of torque (mild tune to 93 octane). It weighed ~3950 pounds and ran 275/35/18 rear tires and 245/40/18 front tires. I daily drove it very aggressively. After 17k, the rears were to the bars and were a bit more worn on the inside. Now let me re-characterize my statement to this: On the 18" wheels, I think this much lighter vehicle with more advanced traction systems will last 15k on the rear given the same daily-driver style of driving I had. Less for 19" wheels and for people who maybe do less highway than I do. I put about 15k miles a year on my vehicles, 60% highway. Take that for what it's worth. |
