Checked out 2015 M3
M3 at local dealer now. Just sitting in the car I ruled it out. Anyone else think the M5 is a different league? True, may not handle as well but the space, fit/finish, solidity of the M5 is leaps and bounds ahead of M3. In the M3 I felt cramped, seats stiffer. M5 just feels comfortable. That quick comparison made me think, I don't care how the M3 drives, I just like the M5 better. Too quick to judge without driving it?

I went and checked out the new M3 today as well. It did nothing for me and I am so glad I have the M5. Fit, finish and space is so much better in the M5 and the seats were no comparison - M5 far better. I also felt cramped in the M3 front and back. The YMB is a terrible colour - IMHO!

Why all the talk about the M3 on an M5 forum?
And were you really surprised that the interior and luxury aspects of the 3 are inferior to the 5??? I mean that IS one of the major differences in the two platforms. Please...I mean no disrespect.... I am just truly puzzled by these things.

[QUOTE=PhilT3;16156481]Why all the talk about the M3 on an M5 forum?
Because a lot of people interested in M5 are also cross shopping the M3. The E39 M5 is heralded by many as the best M5 built. The M3 happens to be very close in size to the E39 M5 and therefore is a natural alternative. Previous post on the forum have contemplated switching from M5 to M3. Just chiming in. And were you really surprised that the interior and luxury aspects of the 3 are inferior to the 5??? I mean that IS one of the major differences in the two platforms. I was not sure what to expect since I had never seen the M3, hence the reason to check it out and compare. I think almost as important as luxury aspects, the interior proportions in M3 seemed off to me in comparison to M5. I owned a previous E39 5 series and was happy with interior size/proportions. Not so much in the new M3. Please...I mean no disrespect.... I am just truly puzzled by these things. No disrespect taken, however, in fairness I think a lot of comparisons have been made on the forum that are not necessarily apples to apples (991 anyone?). M3 to M5 on the other hand is a comparo that I think a lot of future owners will be making. My point was that even without driving the M3 I just was not feeling the vibe in comparison to M5. |

And I guess the M5 gets compared to so many other vehicles out of its 'class' because it's kind of mix of many different classifications, ie luxury, muscle, sport, sedan, daily driver, 2nd car/toy, etc... S

BTW. I see you have the Space Gray/SO on order…nice color combo. I'm thinking frozen black/SO myself with an ED delivery in the fall to boot.
Also notice you list 6'0" 250lbs. I'm only 5'11" 190lb. It's funny bc I was thinking those seats were waaaay to snug for me. No way anyone your size could be comfortable in those things. |

Im currently on the hunt for an M5, and I too went to my local dealership today and looked at the new F80 M3. I wasn't impressed and still found myself looking over at the f10 m5 in the corner. Im happy to hear M5 owners feel that way as well, it just made my decision that much easier!

As for being comfy in the seats... Well, I spent a fair amount of time in loaner 528's. And I sat in an M5 at a local dealer for quite some time. I'll find out soon enough how comfy I can get over extended drives as I'll have plenty on the ED! When I was younger and into power lifting and body building, I couldn't get big enough! Now, that I fly more for work and doing more martial arts training, the size is a detriment. Lol. Hind sight is 20-20!

Sorry but if I'm going to be spending any kind money on a 2-door Sports Car, it's going to be this. Even with zero options on the P-Car, the materials used on the air vents will still feel much higher quality than that on an M4.
The new turbo S55 does sound good, but not anywhere close to this. Now if they could just fix all of the engines...

As someone cross shopping these models currently, I find these threads incredibly helpful, FWIW, even though there is a more extensive thread on the Versus sub-forum.

I think the reason the M5 gets compared to almost every vehicle is because the M5 has set the standard.....
