M2C special editions, typical depreciation?

I'm about to pull the trigger on an M2C Futura 2000 edition and can't help but wonder if the extra $10k for 1/4th an art car would be a complete waste if the depreciation is the same as a normal M2C. I can't think of any BMW special editions that have maintained value that aren't 20 years or more old.

At least it will look cool as my money evaporates?

I believe the circle in which they were received well is small. Like anything else it will only be worth what others are willing to pay for it. I'm unfamiliar with his work on vehicles and how they have sold. My guess is that it may retain 25% to 50% of the 10k for the right buyer. I don't think the vision was executed as imagined. This is from the perspective of someone that was not won over by the final product.

I think the three full art cars from Futura 2000 are absolutely amazing. I haven't signed on for this one yet because the production products are just front bumper, side skirts and rear diffuser. You know... all the places where paint gets the most damage. The interior looks as nice as the art car at least.

Does one drive these cars once you buy them, or they stay parked? Asking since I wouldn't know where to take the car for a repaint if there was an accident? :-)

I would feel confident that if you held it for long enough in pristine condition. Cover it with PPF. It would likely hold value very well because it's different, and someone will want it.

I would drive it... if you have an accident that mars a bumper you're pretty much screwed on this version though. I mean.. I guess you could pay Futura 2000 another $10k to paint a bumper for you.

judging from the press pics, the paint design on each of the different body panels don't even flow together so you could pretty much splash paint from a bucket onto a body panel and it'll look exactly the same

Kudos to you, OP. I thought the art car looked awesome. But I'd be too afraid to drive it myself.

Glad you have the cajones!

For real; I never understood this and other forms of "Art" that you have to interpret the artist's perspective , than actually judge it, with your own two eyeballs, for the mess that it obviously appears to be.. 🤦🏻

Its 500 cars which is quite a lot, this will only increase in value after 9/10ths of the population of these cars is decimated (or get standard bits). Or if they sell like 10 in total.

BMW specials only seem to do well when they come with mechanical upgrades, which this does not.

If you plan to drive it and dont 10k love the paint job I would get a discounted M2C to combat short term depreciation as much as posible.

I saw the car in a video from my sales dude and I was suuuuuper underwhelmed. For $74k it barely looks different than the M2C. This car is now sitting on a lot in Cincinnati if anyone is interested. The interior looks great but not $10k great. The exterior is barely touched and is very subtle. Most people will think it was done by grade schoolers as a prank on their dad. I think the full art cars look amazing but this... even hand painted by Futura 2000 (which seems doubtful unless he was just trying to get them done as fast as possible) it's just not as cool as the advertising would lead you to believe.

Thanks. I'd love to see one in person . I like the alternate leather interior.

The trim I would swap. And I would have to wrap the car lolllll .

Talking to a manager / friend he mentioned how happy he was he didn't get stuck with one of those futura cars.

....
Checked cinci north and there are no pictures. Just stock photo

Also I'm too far away so no worries will not buy this and steal it from you *****

I would look at the value of typical BMW specials like the 30 jahr vehicles. Are the used ones selling any higher than the regular models? I would think that would be a good place to start.

That's an excellent point. Looks like one sold at barret that was completely undriven for $110k. There's a real world one for sale in the bronx with 60k miles and it's $43k. I saw one in Florida going for $70k a year after delivery with 7k miles. Considering those were 2017 cars and held an $86k msrp that doesn't look like a good sign.

So yeah... that car probably isn't for me. I'll go see it in person when it stops raining today.

The most recent example is the 2017 M2 M performance edition. They aren’t worth anymore than a regular 2017 M2.

People actually pay real money for this? I thought the whole Futura 2000 thing was some kind of internet satirical joke I didn't get. It looks like something Ted Cruz would endorse.

Futura 2000 is an important graffiti artist who become commercially viable a few years ago. The full art cars are pretty magnificent looking. The problem is in the case of the limited edition cars there are maybe half a dozen flourishes on the bumpers which looks more like a mistake than art. I mean I get it... if I was an artist and I was asked to paint 500 bumpers I would be fairly minimal about it as well. The interior looks different at least and is pretty nice but honestly the bigger draw there are the seats and the steering wheel, neither of which are art pieces. Again... underwhelmed by the actual product. I'm not paying sticker for that.

You won't be happy with it, especially if you have to explain to people all the time why it looks incomplete and that you spent $10k extra on it.

If you want that kind of look, just drop into a tourist spot where dudes make cool pics of shit with rattle cans, that's what it looks like was done.

I think a better course of action would be to buy a standard M2C in any color you want and give yourself a $10k budget for a custom wrap, like Stealth or something. There was a gal in this forum with a black M2C that had that Stealth wrap done and it looks sharp. I was quoted $9.5k to do it on my LBB car, but I passed because I would just be throwing money away since I already did the PPF. It's such a clean look and would be even more 'exclusive' than some rattle can 'art' shit done on the bumpers and interior carbon fiber bits.
