The message behind it never changes. If you are arguing against it, you are not a true enthusiast.

BMW used to set itself apart from the rest of the competition, now you can simply take your pick; Audi, Merc, Mercedes... they are all more or less the same now.

Facts. isn't it harder to know which light you're turning on with buttons? the switch was much easier and intuitive. you could easily turn lights on while driving before.

F40 configurator already up on bmw.de

Not sure if this really belongs here but there isn't an F40 forum yet.

https://www.bmw.de/de/ssl/configurat...F/F40/esl/new/

Turns out that real dials are actually the default which I quite like. Adaptive suspension is only 150 Euro which is super cheap.

My bigger concern though is that the M135i is about the same price as the M140i xdrive when you're losing 2 cylinders. I would have thought that the M135i should be a bit cheaper.

No I wasn't. I said "things do change" because I remember when BMW announced they would never make a minivan and would never mount a transverse engine. Today there is the 2 series minivan, transverse engines, FWD..

I am not happy about it.

True but isn't it just press (or turn) to AUTO and leave forever now in all honesty? I can't recall having this much / ever in the last 5 years.

Time for an F40 section on the forum?

Quite apt that this is the F40 as it feels evolutionary design wise of the F39....

My guess is that it's a design choice reflecting the inexorable move from analog to digital, where every possible raw mechanical interfacing with the vehicle is gradually and ruthlessly weeded out: from mechanical levers, dials and switches (ignition key, gear lever, headlight switch...) to pressable buttons, from pressable buttons to tactile buttons, from tactile buttons to screens, from screens to voice command, to ultimately telepathic control I guess This technological progression should aim at ever-increasing pleasure and ease/intuitiveness of interaction with the vehicle, however unfortunately the market seems to show that buyers value and demand cutting-edge design and useless technology over intuitive function and optimal ergonomics

BMW still keeps a few old-school controls wherever these are still tied to its core identity (actual, decently sized, auto gear lever mounted on the center console, not on the steering column like Mercedes, not a set of buttons or a rotary knob like Jaguar Land Rover...) or wherever it still just makes more sense than anything else (rotary iDrive knob, rotary volume knob...), but the headlight switch has already succumbed to the trend, like it has at Audi. Luckily BMW's climate controls aren't yet going full digital like Audi's are, but BMW did swap the rotary knobs with buttons... Which is already one notch less connected and less intuitive than Mercedes's perfect toggle switches. The button headlight controls do provide, I think, a cleaner look, but I agree that rotary was much more intuitive. Mercedes still keeps it rotary but uses fine design and materials so the style doesn't suffer at all:

I don't see this being a very popular comment but glad we have a diverse audience here!! lol

Besides the grilles, I don't mind the rest of the design.

Can someone photoshop the 8-series grill onto this thing? That's pretty much the only nice-looking and proportionate grill BMW has these days.

If the new 135i xDrive has a better performance and better track results than the A35 or S3, then it doesn't matter that they changed the entry models to FWD.

But where is the M1 that can compete with the RS3 or the new Mercedes A45s?

Looks much better than I expected.

A hot hatch deserves a manual transmission though.
