dimensions dimension dimension,.. ok here are the #s to compare

Here are the basic dimensions for a couple cars compared with the
E90 330i sport...

E90 Sedan 330iMT
Length: 178.2 in
Width: 71.5 in
Height: 55.9 in
Weight: 3417 lbs

E46 Sedan 330iMT
Length: 176.0 in ( -2.2in )
Width: 68.5 in ( -3.0in )
Height: 54.9 in ( -1.0in )
Weight: 3285 lbs ( -132lbs )

E46 M3
Length: 176.9 in ( -1.3in )
Width: 70.1 in ( -1.4in )
Height: 54.0 in ( -1.9in )
Weight: 3415 lbs ( -2.0lbs )

E39 M5
Length: 188.4 in ( + 1.2in )
Width: 70.9 in ( - 0.6in )
Height: 56.7 in ( + 0.8in )
Weight: 3792 lbs ( +375lbs )

Audi S4
Length: 179.0 in ( + 0.8in )
Width: 69.5 in ( - 2.0in )
Height: 56.2 in ( + 0.3in )
Weight: 3825 lbs ( +408lbs )

I picked these numbers up from various sites on the internet, so please correct any glaring mistakes. I'm pretty sure alot of these numbers arent exactly accurate, so if you know for a fact something is wrong, please update the numberss... but overall this is interesting stuff... the E90 is awfully close to the size of the E39, looks like its somewhere inbetween an e46m3 and an e39 in size... shes grown thats for sure.

So does your old E46 have M3 fenders and bumper or is that just the ZHP package?

I am pretty sure your E46 sedan weight is off.
Isn't it 3285 lbs?

The weight you are quoting for the E90 is the 330's weight. This comes right from BMWUSA.

I believe the E46 weight you are quoting is closer to the 325's weight. According to the 2005 brochure, the E46 with a manual trans weighs 3219, while the E46 330 w/manual trans weighs 3285.

With a manual trans the weight difference between the E46 & the E90 is closer to 70-130 lbs, depending on model.

This is useful information MarkE90M3. It looks like the E90 is still 10 inches shorter than the E39. In length, the E39 is within a few inches of mid-size cars like the current 5 series (191") Mercedes E-Class (189"), Saab 9-5 (189"), Audi A6 (193.5"), Jaguar S-Type (193"), Acura TL (189") and the Volvo S-80 (189"). The extra length of this class usually translates into a bit more leg and trunk room than compacts such as the E90.

The 3 series is a bit shorter than the new A4 (180.6") but these two cars are clearly in the same class as other compact cars such as the Mercedes C-Class (178.4"), Volvo S-60 (180"), Saab 9-3 (182.5"), and Mazda 3 (178").

Interestingly, the Infiniti G35 is really closer in length to the mid-size cars listed above at (186").

thanks! updated the E46 info, but the E90 330i with MT definatly weights 3417... its in the owners manual, thats where I got that number from.

thanks, keep the corrections coming

Considering that the E90 325i and 330i share the same engine in the US, why is there such a large difference in weight?

To my knowledge, the main difference in the two is mainly the intake and software.

I read somewhere that the increased width dimension on the E90 is due to the door handles portruding more.

Could be the larger brakes, sports suspension, sports seats, etc... that's standard on the 330. They may be using a base 325 without the sports package.
