M2C delivery & review

The waits over! Purchased my M2C HS Manual, black rims with blue stitching.

MSRP ($62,900) with $2k deposit. Put down $5k BMW Financed $58,000 @0.99% for 60 months.

I’m driving home now so a longer review and more pictures will come tomorrow. First impressions..one word “rocket”, this thing has more torque than it knows what to do with. All it wants to do is climb climb climb, I feel likes it’s pulling me down the road like a dog chasing a cat. The steering is very prescise in comfort mode. The ride is a bit stiff but oh well it’s a badass Rocket ship.

The HS is gorgeous and changes color im different lights. I was surprised to see a small hue of blue in the paint and glad I went with the blue stitching; compliments very well. And that low having muffler actually looks decent in-person but is noticeable which kinda sets it apart. Lots of looks on the road and everyone was drooling over it at the dealership.

Worth every penny.. if you can find one. More to follow tomorrow!

Dealer specific however, there is a loophole in BMWs “demo program”. If the car reads 301 miles at purchase (from the cars key actually) it then qualifies for .99% interest. Not all dealerships do this... they have to pay an employee to drive it and take on the risk.

cool... good to know. I have a LCI M2 and honestly thought it was still an average of oil and coolant.

Am I seeing cruise control being in use? I would recommend don’t ever use it until you finish break in period. Damn.

Congrats, car looks great.

Are we not supposed to use cruise control prior to 1200 miles? I was told not to beat on it and keep the RPM below 4500.

The theory is the piston rings don't seal correctly if you don't vary the RPM during break in. Cruise control is going to keep you at the same RPM. Some say this only matters in like the first 20 miles. If they don't seal correctly it might burn more oil. I have no idea how important this is on a modern engine but they recommend you vary the RPM in the manual under the break in section. Also at least on the N55 they recommended keeping below 5500 rpm and over a 100+ mph I think.

Check your manual.

First -- Congrats! Awesome looking car!

Second -- The idea behind "no cruise" during break-in is that at any particular RPM, engine vibrations and their harmonics are consistently the same for a long time and can set up patterns in cylinder walls, bearings, etc. as things are still vulnerable, seating, and wearing in.

Whether it'll actually happen if you run cruise for 10 miles when you already have a few hundred miles on the car is debatable, as akkando said, but it's not worth taking the chance IMO.

Everyone has an opinion on break-in, mine being don't baby it, but avoid beating on it or rapping it out to redline under heavy load for a while, ...But one fairly common thread is don't run for long periods at the same RPM. That's kinda boring anyway, so Bonus!

FWIW...

It's quite visible but it has an almost finished/polished look to it in person. Maybe that's what he meant.

Jacob... big congrats on a beautiful ride. I agree with the views above.

Warm the engine by immediately driving off but slowly, not by extended idling. No full throttle runs, constantly vary engine rpms, keep max speed below 100 or 106 mph whatever the manual reads. If the manual, reads, like the for the N55, to keep rpms below 5,500 then by all means use the power-band up to 5,500 when desired (after warm up ~ which means engine oil is at least 190 degrees F).

I like to put the engine under increasing load then decelerate which draws more oil into the cylinders and facilitates the material mating process. I.e. bring the rpms up while remaining under 5.5k going up a hill, then completely back off the throttle and decelerate down the hill drawing more oil into the cylinders and more air to the unloaded engine.

In a perfect world break in would be accomplished in one drive. The fewer cold starts the better. Cold starts are any engine's worse condition, more so during break in.

As your miles accumulate apply more power. I may start off for the first 200-300 miles at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle applied slowly as rpms build. As mileage increases, occasionally apply 1/2 - 3/4 power. No hard throttle at low rpms.

my 2 cts. Hope it helps. Disclaimer: Always defer to the manufacturer's owner's manual.

Thanks for all the feedback on the break-in period I’ll keep that in mind!

To follow up on yesterday’s post, I had the opportunity to drive the car 320 miles yesterday on my way home from the dealership. I’ve experienced it on both straight and windy roads. Please note that I’m not a car review expert however, I have driven the OG M2 and owned a 1998 M3 a few years ago so I have some foundation to compare the M2C’s quality and driving experience.

First off I was planning to purchase the car in cash or pay half cash finance the rest. However, my SA said if I let them drive the car 301 miles they can offer finance at .99% for 60m. Let me be clear this is dealer specific so you’ll just have to ask your dealer about the program. I had no issues and of course was nervous about some dude just driving my car for 300 miles. But they had a specific route they drive to minimize traffic. But at .99% I can do other things with $62k

Pros:
The car itself is a jam packed mini rocket ship! My biggest takeaway is the the steering. It’s precise and reminds me of an old Porsche 944 (probably a terrible comparison) however, I think the precise steering coupled with a slightly updated chassis has made an impact that the driver can immediately notice. As you make the turn into a corner at a reasonable speed you feel confident that the car is not rolling or about to let go. Like the first time I drove a 944, it’s planted “like on rails” and gives the driver that sense of confidence she’s not going to kill you.

As I said before the car has lots of torque and that should be no surprise. I hate the idea of “tuning” a car. However, this thing is begging for a tune. Really all BMW did was drop the M3/4 engine into a little rocketship and detuned it so it could stay in the lineup behind the M3 and M4. And at $60k it’s a bargain IMO.

I like the connected grill. When I pulled up to the dealer I obviously was looking for the M2C amongst the other M cars. And I found myself thinking “look for the single kidney grill” because when you’re looking at a bunch of M cars I look for the “M” badge in the grill and with the connected grill it stands apart from the rest. I think it gives the car a more grown up look but doesn’t takeaway from the sporty appearance.

Cons:
Exhaust. Sport plus mode is good but not great. It does sound like someone’s making popcorn in sport plus mode and my girlfriend was like it’s sounds like a race car! But then if you put in anyother mode besides sport plus it’s garbage. I get the feeling that BMW had to cut somewhere as the entry level M car and I think this is where improvements could have been made but the suit coat calculator types in the room probably said dashhhnooooo give them sport plus mode and they’ll be happy. But this is not the case, definitely the worst part of the car.

The armrest keeps moving and the wireless charging takes forever. If you put the armrest all the way forward and then slightly lean on it the darn thing slides back, annoying. Also the start stop is dumb but I think you can turn that off? I haven’t figured that out yet.

Overall fantastic car and worth the money! I was going to buy a 1M but I’m glad I went with the M2C and after a simple tune this little rocketship could be the next Apollo mission. And if I bought the 1M I’d hate every mile I put on it and wouldn’t want it to leave the garage... the M2C I can drive the hell out of it and enjoy it with a smile on my face.

If it is like the M2 it is the button directly above the start button. When illuminated the dumb function is off.
