335is mods or M4?
Hi All,
I have a 2013 MT 335is coupe that I'm considering adding LSD and some other nice upgrade goodies. I was reading about the new M4, and it seems like it's pretty much a 335is with more power squeezed from the turbos, different suspension, and less steering feel. The M4s look great, but so does the 335is, (I kinda like the wolf in sheep's clothing aspect). I guess my question is, do I spend my money on putting the LSD and 2-3K in other mods on the 335is, (which I expect will bring it to the same power or more than the M4), or do I save my money and just buy the M4? |

My reasoning: M4 is a beautiful car and I would buy one, but way too high for price. I have seen the 335is probably once in the real world since I got my E92 and I was like wow, it's like my car but just added the finishing touch. The M4 will be a monster on the tracks, but I'm curious to see how the S55 will hold up in reliability and mod ability. All the M4 fanboys are going to say it's gonna drive till 300k miles without a hiccup. But I say BS to them because nobody has driven it to that extent obviously. Either way, I love my N55! |

That depends on your income really.
If you can afford a $70K+ car right now, go for it. Your IS is still a pretty new car and as of right now I still dig the E92 look. |

335is is a fantastic car but it's not an M. I wouldn't touch the first year M4 either. The engine is not proven yet and given BMW's track record they will need a year or 2 to get the details right.

And unless you're really oozing money chances are you'd be stuck with no room for modding the M4. I'd take a slightly less new but personalized car over something exactly like the one that came off the production line right after it. |

Keep the 335is. I am old school, I bought my E92 on 8/2013 because I like the looks for the E92 over the F32 body. For me the E92 front end looks much better than the F32 front end. I also feel the F32 is too big.

M4 costs more money.. Depends what you want. Coming from a guy who's tracked both the new M3 and M4, I'd say if you're looking at it from a strict number standpoint and have a plethora of $$$ laying around, go with the M4. It already has LSD and an amazing transmission and body styling. If you're looking for a easy route and save $$$, stick with your current car. If you plan on tracking the car often, go with the M4.

I think I would have to drive one for sure. And we are talking apples and oranges really, or at least apples on the tree and apples that are picked and ready to be cut. IS is worth 40kish loaded for a nice one and you already own it, no additional costs aside from payments. But if you have cash to burn, burn it!
If you aren't concerned about track time I don't see the need for an LSD either, just keep the IS for a few years and save up for a comp pack f82 IMO.

I am in your shoes now. I have had my 335is for exactly 2 years now.
I have been tossing the idea around for MONTHS. I have a test drive lined up. I think I will end up keeping my 335IS for a couple more years. This may be stupid, but I HATE that the M3/M4 doesn't come with LED front and rear blinkers as well as LED brake lights. For me to go from my beloved LED lights to standard bulbs, I just cannot do. (I know you can pay 2k for the LED package but that's just for the front to be LEDs not the rear!

I'll probably end up picking up a LCI M4 when they come out in a few years.

Let somebody else take a $30k depreciation hit. Have fun with the 335is and look to buy an M4 in a few years.

Ya I agree with GMe90, why buy a new one when you can get a used one with 15k on it in 2 or 3 years for 20-30k cheaper?
