First front brake service
Morning all,
So I had my 2020 M235i gran coupe in for its first front brake service mileage is 36k km mostly city and highway driving and I would say hard driving (that is why we buy these cars for right?) Well as I suspected it was a big bill, new front brakes and rotors …… Wait for it $1200 Cdn dollars. Anyone else have the brakes serviced yet? |

Hey there I only have 10,000 miles on my 2022 228i XDrive, 36,000 mile lease I’m hoping I don’t have to replace the brake pads or rotors but Looking through my lease paperwork it doesn’t say anything about having to go to the dealer, I can get the brake pads genuine BMW for $70 bucks, Rotors $120, my independent mechanic will do the whole job for $250 out the door. Is there a reason why you went to the Stealership?

I hear you but the M235i has actual M series rotors and pads. According to my service manager good guy they are very pricey parts and aftermarket are just not the same as the OEM ones
All that to say they are very expensive, but when you buy an M235i it comes with the territory Anyone else service their brakes to date an willing to share the cost? |

Have you looked for aftermarket options? I briefly looked (I’m only at 11,000km so I have a while before I need to look at the brakes), but I couldn’t seem to find any…. If and when I need to replace, I’d look at oem availability out of the USA. Rock Auto, Turner, FPC Euro.

I have a 2021 228i with 20,000Km (without the M brake package) and just had my rotors changed under warranty because of pad impression - yet my car has never sat for more than a day. I’m convinced the rotors on the 228i are not the best. Just my own opinion that is.
“IF” you don’t drive hard, there is no reason why the rotors should need to be replaced so early. My previous car was a Benz CLA 250 (which I still miss to this day). I put 70,000km on that vehicle and handed it back after 42 months with the original brakes. Go figure. |

I had mine front brake pads replaced at 18k km. Told by dealer the pad only about 3mm which need to be replaced sooner or later. Done both front for around $1000 AUD.

18k km? Unless heavy braking that seems a very low amt of km? Even 36km which I have now and was told prob another 8 to 10km before meed to look at replacing. My question, why would rotors need to go? Some cars can go well.over 100000km before any major brake work.

I totally agree with you, rotors should not go so quickly. Especially when you consider that "M" rotors are bigger then what you are seeing on the base cars and the car is not much heavier. Curious if people who are replacing them so early have been tracking the car. |
