Such a shame IMO. M135i should mean inline six. And it looks more like an X2 to me.

The current A35 has 306hp. The A45 due soon will have 421hp.

Considering the DTM has gone back to 4s and they managed to make a more powerful version than last years 8, I would say #2 is a distinct possibility.

Tire squeal and motor whine will be all you hear. Sigh.

The silver lining is that the vast majority of dedicated EV platforms will be RWD-first. I would strongly prefer a RWD electric drivetrain over a FWD I4 drivetrain.

Why would you buy the new M135i with less power than M140 when Merc are doing this !

Why indeed would anyone buy anything with less power than something else? Why doesn't everyone drive a Chiron?

In Europe and other markets you pay a lot of taxes from emissions, engine size, etc
that’s why Bmw launched the M135 xdrive, with a 2.0 engine to beat Mercedes A35.
But they also going to launch the new M140i xdrive to beat the A45

A good example in Portugal:

2019 M135i xdrive 65 000 euros
2018 M140i 67 000 euros
The new 2019 M140i xdrive over 70 000 euros

It would seem so, imo I think it will all go that way.
Things are changing very quickly due to emission standards, so obv car manufacturers are having to follow suit.
Maybe not for the better, but in the UK of course by 2050 we will all be driving round in electric cars.

Will be interesting however if rumours are correct, the part electric 1 series will look if/when it's launched in 2020/2021. Something I heard BMW are looking into for this generation.
