Anyone Consider Grand Cherokee?

Am going to be in the market in the next year when my current lease runs out...

Should I even bother test driving the Grand? When we were looking at a suv for the wifey, we drove the ML350 and were pretty unimpressed, she ended-up with E70 35i.

Gotta say I am thinking hard again about a 50i or 35d F'15...And the Porsche Macan is very high on the list too....

Now all this gets blown-up if new M4 leases are too good to pass-up

I bought a Grand Cherokee Ltd many years ago and biggest mistake I ever made. The car had way too many problems and I was constantly bringing my car into the shop to be repair.

I still don't quite understand all the negativity here on the 2014 Grand Cherokee. It's pretty impressive and has nice tech.

"Pretty impressive and nice tech"?????? Are you buying a car or a gadget? They can put whatever technology in that car but the car itself is garbage. I had one so I can assure you that. I had break issues every 6 months. You go to the dealer and you are luck if they call you a taxi to go home. The treatment is incomparable.

Spend some time in the cockpit of a Grand Cherokee and then go spend time inside a X5, ML, RR. It is night and day. Look at the details. The quality of everything is inferior in the GC. It is all plastic. Also, when it comes to mechanics you are comparing a car designed in Detroit vs a car designed in Germany. It is like comparing an Apple product and a Chinese knock off. They may look the same from far away but they are not the same.

Again, don't get me wrong, I am always happy when Hertz upgrades me to a Grand Cherokee vs the Chevy Malibu that I reserved.

The current GC was designed in Germany by Daimler and uses the old ML chassis. Big upgrade over earlier generations. That said, I do still agree it in no way is on the same level of the X5. Neither was the previous generation ML ... We had one, handled like a pickup truck with an equal amount of body roll.

The New MLs are not that far off. Test drove the 550 and a 350 Bluetec. 550 was quick, but I was scared going around it in corners; you could feel the V8 wanting to go the other way when you turned. the 350 bluetec was surprisingly agile and had a decent punch to it; but not confidence inspiring as any other German SUV. Although I have never driven a GC, I would think it is as incapable of handling corners as a fat man on a unicycle.

I just went both directions. Bought a 2012 SRT Jeep in June of '12. Looked good, ran good, but nothing but problems. Sunroof rattled continuously, Front fascia popped out on both sides of fenders and wouldn't stay clipped to front fenders and stuck out a 1/2 inch on both sides (This was when it was a week old) Dealers are gluing them back together because Chryco wont extrude a proper clip! Front and rear fender flares are stuck on with 3M tape and are coming undone on almost everyone out there. Radio would lock up, took three visit before they finally replaced it. AC wouldn't work with remote start, they never figured that out. The leather side strip on the seat looked like elephants skin after just 9K miles. Engine would sometime have a loud hammering knock when you would start it and would not stop until you turned it off. I was told the are lifters failing in some cases with the new 6.4 in the SRT models. Anyway, I owned the Jeep for 9 months and 9K miles they fixed the radio and that was it. I got sick of dealer and their non caring Tech's and traded it for a '13 50i. I couldn't be happier now, 5.5K miles and not one single issue with my 50i. Just hit the Jeep sites if you want to see all the issues. Its a great looking rig, especially the new '14, but engineering is a joke and these things aren't worth near what they are selling for.

lol perfect comparison. Sounds about on par with the reviews I've read for the new ML, mostly saying handling is improved from the previous generation, but not much and still offers little by way of fun and handling.
