Valve cleaning at 58000

Took some before an after pictures of the cylinders (from rear to front). Meth for 5k miles. Tuned for 15k+ miles. No OCC. Took approximately 4 hrs. Current mileage 58000. Technique was gun brushes and B12 Chemtool.

Good Job OP. This is not a slam, but just a PSA: The Walnut Shell Blasting does a more thoroough job than depicted in your after photos.

I'm sure you have seen plenty of before and after pics from walnut shell blasting so i wont critique your results in comparison. Your DIY certainly saved you money and the result is probably 90% of the way there.

I could have spent more time making them perfect, but IMHO it wouldn't make a difference in how it drives or how long they would stay clean. 99% of the buildup comes off relatively easy. Also the car pulls away much smoother in first now. Sometimes I would get hesitation and jerkiness when pulling off in first gear with partial throttle, not anymore.

Nice work, I bet you were wore out?

I did the valve cleaning and installed DPs at the same time.....felt like a totally different car.

For anyone wondering, YOUR valves look just like tcw's before pics no matter how you drive or what your mods are.

It wasn't too bad. It was nice not to have to be under the car working on it at least. The best part is knowing I don't have to do it anytime soon again.

I absolutely agree with your assessment of the reward vs extra work justification and with your assessment of the engine feel and response. After doing the blasting on my engine at 52000 miles I finally felt what the car must have felt like when new. Smoooooth.

I so need to try this. Id probably use your method vs the walnut shell blasting.
