Nor did I but unfortunately that's not how things went. I don't think I've spent so much time in a service department for a brand new car The good news is the coffee tastes good and the wifi is free. The last time I had an X5 as a loan car so I can't complain about how I've been looked after.

Funnily enough though, I love this car in spite of all the teething troubles. The problems I've had haven't been serious and have all been sorted. I still would go back and do it all again if I had to

Unfortunately I'm starting to see a little more of the service department than I'd like. On balance I'm still happy with the car, just hope the new auto box (when it finally gets fitted) won't be the start of bad things...

This is a pity. I really hope all will be good with your new box. I await my own problems with baited breath as I'm sure they will rear their ugly head at some stage. There's no such thing as a fault free car, though they are much better than they used to be.

UPDATE: I have just spent the last 3.5 hours drinking coffee and using Wifi at my local dealer while they checked out the brakes. I mentioned on arrival that I'd heard this was an issue and the service reception guy didn't blink. I went out for a test drive with a mechanic who noticed it straight away and said he thought it was over cleaning of and lack of lubrication on the front discs. On return to the dealership the mechanic said to the service receptionist that 'there was an update from BMW on their technical system about this issue' so he clearly had seen it before. They lubricated the front discs did a test drive and they still squealed so they then did the rears (hence 3.5 hours) and now having squealed loudly under 25mph then squeal quietly at under 5mph just as the car comes to a halt. So, that's progress I suppose.

Lubricated discs? What on earth has your service technician been smoking?

Lol. Lubricate the brakes!

So it's either removing the squeaks via lubrication or having a car that stops but squeaks...

the pad in the caliper can vibrate which can cause the squel, the lube is coppasilp on the rear of the pad which should cut out the vibration, there is also a blue gungy compound that is used which is meant to be better than coppaslip

Won't wear out either

So it took 3.5 hours to coppaslip 8 pads? Did they have to mine the copper?

You often get shim plates that are already gunged

Yes that and the time taken was - I think - due to short staff / heavy workload. Anyway, the squealing is back 50 miles later so whatever they did do hasn't actually fixed it.

Noisy brakes - update

Having had 3 trips to my dealer and still under 2,000 miles - BMW have paid for 4 new discs and pads and the problem seems to be gone, for now. Interestingly they also took a chunk out of both rear alloys when removing them so had to repair one and replace the other FOC... That's 11 days in the workshop so far just to restore the car to how it was meant to be when I bought it. They fitted my carbon grille FOC as a gesture of goodwill...

Garage List
Dealer attempted to fix my brake squeal and was partially successful - the squeal was still there but not as loud for the first 50 or so miles. Now it's louder than ever!

They're on a long list of things for the dealer to do (again).

The dealers are waiting for a fix apparently. Presumably waiting for the supply and permission to fit different OEM pads.

Mine have been looked at twice while the car has been in for other issues, both times the noise has returned within days. It was hinted that they wouldn't do it again until a fix was available.
