USB not working. anyone experienced this?
Few days ago I loaded some songs onto a USB and tried to play it for the first time ever, and it wouldn't play. I have a 135 with iDrive and business Navi. When I chose the the AUX/USB option it just jumped to radio. Couldn't get in to the AUX/USB option. Anyone had this problem?
Got the car booked in next week for the dealer to look at. I tried the sales' USB and it did the same thing. Hopefully a quick software reflash will solve it. On a side note, the low engine oil warning light went on today. This is with less than 1500km on the clock. |

I can't help you with the USB function, hopefully the re-flash will solve it.
As for the low engine oil warning light, was your car parked on a slope? This happens to most peoples 1ers if you start your car up on a slope, it's basically an inaccurate reading and it gets thrown off. Start your car on a flat surface and it should be fine. |

Was coming out a carpark and stopped at a Red light on a slope. So may be that was it. Just went to check oil level but realised that the damn car doesn't have a dipstick, even though the manual indicated where it should have been. I will try to check again with the electronic indicator tomorrow. You are probably right re on the slope. |

It happens to me frequently. My drive slopes down and if I stop too long after I leave the garage the oil low warning light come on. I check it again later and its OK. The car seems to check the oil soon after it starts.

What song file format you are trying to run? MP3 or protected music files?
They sometimes take a long time to load. Just wait....

I had a similar prob with my iDrive when using my iPod it would randomly jump back to the radio. I replaced the USB cable and it still did it, so when I took it in for a service they found a fault with the software so hard to reload it. Havent had a problem with it since.

My salesman told me this is normal after about 4 tanks of fuel, and to just put in another litre of oil to top it up... that said I've got 1100km on my car so far and the oil level is still at max

+1 for the slope effect - i posted about that in another thread a day or two ago.
RE the USB - what size is it? I thought I'd be smart and get a 64Gb USB key ($80 on ebay) and put all my music on there instead of my iPod ... car won't read it. It reads other (smaller) USB keys fine. Key was formatted in FAT32 as well. |

it's only 8GB with only a few songs. There is a problem with the car/computer, not the USB as I tried with the sales' USB which works fine on other BMW's. We'll see what happens when the dealer look at it next week.

I'm running a 32gb usb stick with no issues. Sometimes it takes about 5-8 seconds for the song to play after start up though but that's nothing.

I'm using a 120Gb hard drive. Occasionally it won't read the drive. I just unplug it and plug it in again and it works fine.

I had this issue. Turned out the "64GB" USB I bought on ebay was a dud and would only hold an actual 2GB. I got my money back eventually from PAYPAL and the guy who sold to me is no longer an eBay member.

Can you actually use the full 64GB? While my stick appeared to copy all files - and I could see them, the files in excess of 2GB were actually stored as 0 bytes and were unusable. First 1.90GB worked fine.

Yep, turns out my car has the same problem. 8GB stick. iPod nano, iPod touch, nothing works. It just jumps straight back to FM radio after a few seconds.
Thought I was doing something wrong, but looks like that's not the case. Guess I gotta get it checked out.

I have aftermarket stereo, and BMW blamed it on that. Something about voltage drop or spike. Told me that the car computer is sensitive to any modification. My Bluetooth also doesn't work, can't activate it at all. So now I am taking the car to Car stereo shop to be checked, then back to BMW again. My wife's X5 electronic parking brake also failed recently. Couldn't drive it. Had to go to the dealer to get the software updated. Common problem I was told. Since then the iDrive screen froze twice on me. What a stupid car. I don't know why BMW can't just be reliable like Japanese cars. |

Okay, I managed to get the damn thing working today. With nothing better to do, I inserted my USB stick and nothing happened.
Took out the car key, reinserted it with the USB STILL IN THE PLUG and it started working fine. Music was playing off it with no problems. Don't know if I'll have to do this everytime, but I'm gonna take it to the dealers to get it checked out. I'll let you know what the verdict is. Sounds like your dealer is making excuses, that's like saying attaching new speakers to your computer will cause the USB ports to fail.
