Have you checked your oil indicator lately?

I just checked my oil indicator and it says 1/2 tank, i only had my car for about 5 months. I'm just wondering if anybody had this problem before. Is it normal? Any feedbacks?

No problem, they use some oil

You can fill up when it gets to the bottom and says you need oil.

Also, its not 1/2 tank, but 1/2 litre down, there would be another 6 litres in there

So far, neither of my cars has used enough oil to register. They both show full whenever I check.

If you happen by your dealership, just stop and ask them to top it off for you. They should do that.

I checked mine the other day and noticed the same thing. It is sitting right at the halfway marker. I had always planned to have my oil changed at 5K miles anyway and currently I am at 4600. It will be interesting to see how much oil has been used. My guess would be a quart at the very most. I think that oil gauge is not the most representative device for measuring the level of oil in the engine but thats just me.

5,000 miles and still the same oil level as I got it. The oil interval has gone lower though.

My car was low on oil 2 times since I got my car in August. I added a quart during Thanksgiving and another quart about 2 weeks ago. Is this normal?

Depends on mileage. That´s adding 1 qt every 3 mos.

I have close to 9k miles right now. And I usually added the quart after 500+ mile trips

Oz - I'm the same as you. I went in once to get my oil topped off and I'm getting low again. I've had my car since August 2 and I've got about 11,000 miles.

Then I guess I am not the only one. My BMW salesman has a 05 545 and he tells me always keep a quart of oil in my trunk just like he does. He filled up my and gave me couple quarts just in case

I just hope something is not wrong with the car

I wouldn't do that. There was a thread about faulty sensors showing low oil-go by your dealer and have them check-if you have a faulty sensor you definately do not want too much oil in your car.

I had the low-oil warning at 6mo. and it was ~10k miles, filled in with 1 quart Mobile 1 from Costco. Now it shows 50% full, but it's 9 mo. old. I'll be having the first oil change in 4000 miles. So no more filling for me.

Yes it definitely can be. Oil consumption also varies on how you drive your car. Higher rpms, more oil.

Or check the level with the dipstick?

I'd be very surprised in the UK if you happened by a dealer and dropped in that they would give you an oil top up for free. First, they'd charge you as it's a consumable. Second, they'd want you to make an appointment.

Yes no chance of free oil in the UK!
My car has now done 5K miles and the oil level indicator is still showing near Max.
