I don't have any first hand knowledge about the decision making process that takes place at BMWNA.
But, no question, the distribution of this car is unique. No question, too, this car is about money for the M Division. Not so much, IMO, about how much they'll make this year on 700 cars (which is, I would guess, a drop in the bucket for BMW as a whole). It's about money they've received from past M car customers. And that, to me, is the very first candidate criteria - How many M cars have you owned. Notice, I'm saying M cars, not X1s, 2s, 750s or whatever else BMW sells. The idea here seems simple and in plain view - you reward the guy/girl who's provided the M Division the most profit. That's less likely to be, IMO, the guy who comes in and makes pricing demands. No offense here; but, (this may be my cynical side showing up), it's more likely the guy who's happy with MSRP and, in that way, has developed a "great relationship" with the dealer. There has been mentioned on this thread that the dealer, apparently when motivated, has provided a bio to BMWNA. I think this customer tendency may somehow be conveyed in that bio. It's also been mentioned that (per the M division) the GTS customer be inclined to show the car in public instead of sticking it in his/her garage and looking at it once in while. Or something equivalent. Makes sense as a bio item. Particularly since BMW will be celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. (http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/08/17/bm...ports-reunion/) A track person, I guess, would gain a few points in the selection process. Have you any thoughts about the criteria? This e-mail followed by voucher thing, if true, is also intriguing. Is the M Division preventing a dealer "market adjustment?" |

I was contacted by my local dealer that because of the volume of BMW purchases that I have made over the years, I am on the list and are eligible to purchase one of the 300 M4 GTS in the U.S.. I am not a track person, and I just got my 2016 M4, so I'm not interested. PM me if you're interested in getting one of these cars, but are not on the list.

Spoke to my sales rep the other day, he wanted to be sure of my correct mailing address. He indicated his dealership is allocated two vouchers, which will be mailed. He also indicated the receiving the voucher is no guarantee you will have access to a car. He said BMW would be randomly selecting vouchers, if they pull yours you win, if you opt not to purchase your slot goes to the next guy, seems to make sense to a point. I dunno

Finally got my production number today. When I called genius they told me the allocation was awarded 1/5/16 (didn't even inquire until the 10th). Weird why I am just now getting it but I'm not complaining. Week 5 build!!

Good assumption... I learned yesterday I will get an allocation for a GTS, I'm quite happy with the news.
My local dealer is some how small compared to larger dealers in larger cities. My guys where very motivated about working to get an allocation. They have good M Sales... lots of volume for a small dealer... they have been aching to become an M certified Dealer. For the order they did not asked me my bio, but just in case I reminded my sales rep what cars I had bought from them and some others at other dealers. Just with them over years I have bought almost all generations of M5 except for the E28 from the same dealer. I still have all 4 M5 in my garage... I also acquired from them an E46 and a E90 M3 and my daily driver is an E70 X5M. So perhaps the M guys do look into this. I'm no stranger to this process. Porsche and Ferrari do it the same.. If you are a recurring customer you get the chance to order your car and in most cases get it at sticker. Last year I finally received my 458 Speciale after paying my dues to the brand for 5 years. And Last week I took delivery of my GT3 RS, after waiting almost two years too. I'm all for the voucher thing if it has the objective of preventing dealers from marking up. It is just wrong to wait for a car with such devotion to be disappointed by a greedy dealer. By the way... I'm undecided between ordering mineral gray or sapphire black. Quote:

Only the Frozen Grey is limited and buyers are asked to provide a backup choice. I've also been told (as was rumored before) European Deliveries & BMW Individual won't be available for US buyers, which is a shame since ED is being offered in Canada.

I got a call yesterday, first about my intent regarding the car, then later telling me I got an allocation. I need to give them my color choice today.
He confirmed that the seat was NOT the single piece bucket with harness holes. Too bad. Any idea if we can buy those from Europe? Also anyone offered the choice of the Carbon fiber wheels? |
