it's the same as buying any sports car if you live in a city... you buy it cos you love the car, no other reason

There are plenty of big V8 MBs and BMWs there. People buy them for the status. Besides, there are some good new highways there now. If you haven't been there lately, some parts in China are not as backward as you may think. BTW, BMW makes the 3 series in China for the Chinese market. |

LOL. As of matter of fact, one of the Chinese brand cars uses a badge that looks like the real BMW badge and another uses front grills that look like MB's. I wonder if people buyiing those cars really think they are driving a BMW or MB. |

Depends on how you define "China", Hong Kong a special administrative region of China has plenty of MB and BMWs. Shanghai, Beijing and numerous other booming cities in China certainly has many rich people who can afford to buy 300 hp BMW and drive in their newly built highways. Singapore and Indonesia, whose government and economy are run by Chinese descendent, also has many people driving BMWs. And then of course Taiwan, a controversial part of historical China.
Please just try to give respect. |

I was in Kunming (capital city of Yunnan province, southwest China) in January on vacation, and saw about 4-5 BMWs per day. Yes, I saw some of the "joint venture" cars but also the actual BMWs.
4 photos from my trip, top to bottom: 1. Highway in Kunming 2. BMW X5 in town 3. China's new car culture...repair and mod shops in the Kunming suburbs 4. Kunming traffic I read somewhere that China is one of BMW's largest markets for the 7 series.
