Has anyone had any luck programming these buttons with your garage door opener? I tried the procedure in the manual a few times but it had no effect.

Fixed-code hand-held transmitters
1. The ignition is on.
2. Press both outer buttons, 1 and 3, for approx. 20 seconds until the LED flashes.
3. Hold the hand-held transmitter a distance of approx. 1 to 3 in/2.5 to 8 cm away from the memory buttons.
4. Simultaneously press the transmit button of the hand-held transmitter and the memory button of the Universal Garage Door Opener.
5. Release both buttons when the LED flashes rapidly.

Mine won't work with my garage door either. It seems homelink themselves put a memo somewhere on their website that specified that the mirror buttons will not work with certain liftmaster models.

Some or I should say most models have a learn button on the actual unit. After you do the procedure you outlined you will need to press the learn button the motor unit and then the programmed home link button. This will work on most models but I believe never models have gone past rolling codes and things so if it’s a brand new unit it might not be compatible with home link. I have had an older one that didn’t require me to press a learn button and worked fine but it was much older.

Strange, My Garage door was just replaced in the last year with a new one and home link works fine with it.

Have you tried tilting the mirror towards the opener, or even do the learning with the car in the garage?

Ive noticed that if my car is in the driveway and at too much of an angle it the homelink wont pick up the garage door unless I reverse to reposition.

We just got a new garage door opener with the newer security protocol and I had to upgrade the homelink module in my mirror to get it to program.

This thread talks about the module that came in mirrors on newer BMWs. It was a very easy swap, just picked up a used mirror on eBay.

With the new module it programmed to the opener on the first try using the steps in the first post.

I have a newer chamberlain with MYQ wifi.
The homelink module in my 135i mirror is no longer compatible with the newer security (2.0) protocol.
I had to purchase a signal repeater designed to link an older homelink signal to the newer security protocol.
Worked like a charm.

It took at least 1/2 dozen tries using the steps in the manual. Later tried to program my father's garage door opener to the 1er, but gave up and bought a second door opener.

I went this route as well. Works just fine.

For some unknown reason, the #1 button refused to link up. However, it did couple when I tried the #2 (middle) button. On my F10, the #1 button works fine. Go figure.

I actually have a good insight on this!

I recently installed a home link 4 compatible module to my e38 750 which had home link 3. Home link 3 cannot do rolling codes which are a part of the newer security protocols. As far as I’m aware, since our cars last year is 2013, that is the first year of many of the new garage openers having the rolling codes.

As a result, I had to pull a mirror from an f01 post 2013 with certain part numbers and then unsolder the old buttons, solder the new buttons and reinstall. Here is the diy from the m5boardsif you’re curious.

I bought the repeater module, but after looking into this, I like it a lot more because the repeater only works with one door, but I have two that I want to control. Thanks for sharing the link - new mirror purchased!
