Fixing Chips in Paint
UGH, I was cleaning things out of my trunk and a damn screwdriver fell out of one of my tool bags and fell right on to my back bumper. Lucky or not, I think the very tip hit it and left a hideous chip. It's a small chip, but its annoying me. I'm also fearful it could get worse over time. I would say it's a bit deeper than a normal rock chip, but not totally sure. I've never corrected rock chips on previous cars.
Can anybody recommend a good DIY chip repair tool/kit? I was thinking maybe just getting a touch up pen and trying that, but I'm not sure that would actually fill the chip. If so, any recommendations for touch up paint? My car is Bluestone Metallic. THANKS! Last edited by lmkhl; 01-29-2019 at 02:41 PM.. |

I’ve had decent success with small paint chips using Dr. Color Chip’s Standard Paint Chip Repair Kit. They have most all BMW paint colors including yours. https://www.drcolorchip.com/

The matching color and clear coat you can buy at the dealer sucks and doesnt match , at all.

only see the chip(s) from an angle that has the light hitting the edge of it. I'd rather chip repair be concave than the typical pimple repair with little bulging dots everywhere.

If you want to actually "fill" the chip flush, the best product to use is Langka, in conjunction with factory touch up paint.
http://www.langka.com/ I've used it for years and works very well. I also use Dr Colorchip for small or lighter chips Having both kits gives you option on how best to deal with various chips |

I'm doing this right now. I think I ordered from Paintscratch. Everyday for the past 2 weeks I've been applying 1 coat at a time. This week I'm letting it dry, then I'm going to wet sand and buff. I've painted full lip kits with rattle cans from Paintscratch so I'm confident I won't jack it up too much. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I can take some quick pics of the during. I might have some pics of the chips. The chips on my doors were pretty huge thanks to people parking next to me. The chips on the hood were way smaller. I will definitely take pictures as I go for you guys.

It depends if you can see metal or just primer.
Check out this thread. I meant to post the info here a few months back, but never got around to it. https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1921244 If its not too deep you might be able to buff it out with a RO buffer. |
