Best fuel in Ireland?
Any advice would be appreciated guys!
Going to Ireland on Monday for three weeks, ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast and then straight down to Dublin for three days then the rest of the time touring around southern Ireland. Been reading stuff on websites that super unleaded is not available in the Republic.....oh shit! My 435i now with the MPPK fitted gets really grumpy when it's starved of it's regular diet of Shell V-Power! What the hell do I use down in southern Ireland?....help! |

Don't think a few tanks of 95 will be a problem, surely? My M4 doesn't moan about 95 as and when...
Although, wouldn't personally add anything to the tank, that didn't come with the fuel originally! |

Can't really help sorry. Not really my local patch as I'm on the North Coast. Do a Google search and as you say neck it but don't assume the last place in NI will have super unleaded. It isn't overly popular so smaller stations may not have it.

Looking at BP Banbridge on the A1 north of Newry or would you think in Belfast area as I come off the Stena Line terminal?

There are no service stations on the A1, check out Tesco @ the Banbridge outlet junction to see if they do their 99 ron offering.

The RON calculations attract debate here as by law, 6% of the fuel has to be bio ethanol which technically boost the RON figure. As all fuels must have a baseline figure of 95 RON, the ethanol additive, technically, gives a fuel like Maxol's unleaded a 99 RON. But then efficiencies have to be taken into account. A high ethanol content will mean you need more volume to produce the same amount of energy when compared to a pure petrol. Not c**p but not as energy dense as 100% petrol.
Of course, you could always buy some Panta XS 115 Ron race fuel! |

The lack of super is a huge pita. It is a major consideration when mapping cars over here.
As to where to fill up in the south, stick to the main brands: Topaz, Applegreen, Maxol, Texaco. Don't touch no-brand stations especially near the border. |

Op- there's a BP at Banbridge just 3 minutes off the A1. Otherwise there's Newry nearer the border but the BP is not handy to the A1.
I wouldn't worry too much about the southern stuff, and the millers suggestions above are good. You can feed her some 99 when you get back to Blighty and after a tankful she'll be purring happily again. Enjoy your trip it's a beautiful place PS- watch out for white van speed traps on the A1....once across the border feel free to stretch your legs in relative safety. Not of course that I condone any form of speeding |

Just down here at the moment. Did your route too but I'm a diesel which is great innoreland. Petrol is about 1.28 euro at the moment. A friend of mine who lives locally actually warned me about the fuel stations a few weeks back as there has been a lot of stations watering their fuel down and engines blowing and a few have been closed down because of it. His advice was to avoid the stations in the more remote parts.
You should be able to find plenty of the bigger name stations around the place, applegreen, you'll find a few she'll stations and if you stick with those you should be safe. I would just go for the busy ones, as the locals will usually know fairly quickly which stations are good and not. For the fuel though I can't offer much as I don't use petrol. |

Hi. There's a BP station about half a mile off the A1, just take the first exit for Banbridge and cross the flyover.
there is also a newish petrol station on the A1, just north of Banbridge but it's only accessible from the northbound carriageway. Then there's the Tesco filling station at Bridgwater Park (the Outlet) Banbridge, take the first exit after going under the second flyover, about a mile further down the A1. The camera vans usually appear in the 60mph limits at Dromore and Banbridge, however it's also patrolled by unmarked traffic cars and liveried bikes. As said above, just watch your speed and you'll be grand. Good luck, and enjoy the trip. Cooks |

Why worry? I used to live in Rep of Ireland and was driving 335i those days. Shell V-power was available short after I bought that car than Shell sold their business and than only one option left - regular 95. The car was fine, did not have problems. I think some people there still have decent cars including Porsche and they all use unleaded 95 and they are fine.
