How so? He is not obligated to only respond the way you want him to. Face it you are being a bit cheap, not that there is anything wrong with saving a few bucks.

Disagree. He's not being cheap. I think he's being smart and frugal to look at all of his options before wasting $25-30 unnecessarily. There's a difference between smart/frugal and cheap.

Actually, by requesting these freebies you are bypassing Carfax's revenue stream and stealing their property/service. It is against Carfax's TOU to share reports, even for unlimited accounts. You can justify stealing any way you like, but is still what it is. If you value the info they provide then pay for it.

Autocheck's terms are perhaps more lenient. They define personal as simply not exceeding 25 checks in 60 days. However, if you pay for the service then they provide buyback protection in case of a compromised title that doesn't show on the check. You cannot get this benefit off of a freebie.

This is a fine example about how useless these reports are. The last reported mileage is 5.
What this means is that they nothing about this car. Accordingly, we can deduce: Clean Carfax/Autocheck means nothing Reports on a Carfax/Autocheck means stay away. |

While far from perfect, I did find both types of reports helpful for weeding out some of the shady sellers on ebay/craigslist who would try to pass off a Salvage/Buyback vehicle as "Mint". Also, about 75% of the time Carfax had good detail regarding how/when the vehicle was serviced, and whether it was actually a true manufacturer CPO vehicle.

In this case, unless the car currently has never been to a dealer for service and has about 6 miles on the clock, the report is meaningless. |

I think the value of the clean CARFAX/Autocheck report is that you walk away with a reasonable amount of confidence that the vehicle in question has a clean title. If the car in question had been a buyback or salvage, chances are that information would have been captured on the report. So while this particular vehicle history report lacks detail, there's still value in having it IMHO, and therefore not meaningless.

I agree with what many of written here, a Carfax, etc is SENSITIVE, but not SPECIFIC. IF there is something MAJORLY wrong with the car, it will likely show up on a Carfax, and from my experience, I've walked away from many a car when shopping recently simply because the Carfax showed info that the seller didn't disclose. However, a clear Carfax doesn't GUARANTEE that the car in question hasn't had problems/accidents/etc. However, it's a nice start. ANYWAYS, CAN WE ALL PLEASE STOP HIJACKING THE OP'S THREAD, AND JUST GIVE HELP HIM OUT, AND GIVE HIM REPORTS!
OP Now you've read about all the positives and "negatives" of a these reports. IF you're serious about any care, make sure you get a PREPURCHASE inspection done by a mechanic/dealership, as well as a carfax. Blah blah blah, my Carfax one-month is gonna expire soon, so if you have any more (VALID) VINs, lol, just PM me and I'll run them for you.
