how to post fit luggage compartment cover F40

Hi all,
just receiveed my F40 but i ordered with M performance pack which deletes the luggage storage compartment.

I ordered the parts to install and realise theres no hole cut outs for the luggage floor, it seems you need to do a cut out. I'm checking with BMW if this can be done.

anyone have any experience with this?

I did complete (well, almost) retrofit of the trunk equipment.
When ordering M135i I was faced with the choice: I could have M Performance package (7ML) or fully equipped trunk. Turned out I wanted both of those

So, let's start by looking at differences between "normal" trunk and limited one:

As we can see there are a lot of differences, but the key ones are:
1) no luggage floor
2) different side trims - no option of storing removable top shelf under luggage floor; no net on the right, no rubbery band on the left; no bag hooks
3) no 12V port, no light on the left hand side
4) loading edge trim is plain plastic

Each of the things on that list is kind of separate retrofit, really. I personally didn't try to add 12V or LHS light because that would require electrical wiring modification, which for me was a no-go (warranty, etc).

So I decided to do 1), 2) and 4). I was researching this on my own and some of the stuff was unclear to me so I chose to err on the side of caution - first did luggage floor retrofit and while doing it I made sure that side trims replacement is also doable (it was). Replacing loading edge trim (4) is really trivial and took 3 minutes - completely plug & play.

But, let's get back to luggage floor.
You're correct, the cover trim is different. Your options are to make the proper cuts or to order the factory version with them already present.
I don't recommend cutting them yourself, unless you're really on the budget. I guess making these cuts isn't that difficult, but the material isn't great for that and in my opinion it's hard to do in aesthetically pleasing manner.

Complete part list for doing luggage floor retrofit:

1 - 51477448231 - luggage compartment (shelf)
2 - 51477448230 - mounting of floor panel
4 - 51477448200 - trim panel, cross member
11 - 07119907139 - countersunk screw M6x16 (4 are needed)

Two notes:
1) all of the above is for Left Hand Drive car and your is RHD, but I guess that doesn't matter and the trunk is the same in both versions. You can double check just to be sure.
2) removing cross member trim panel technically requires removing real bench first; I didn't want to mess with it (safety, etc.) so I just kind of forced the old trim out. I also made a small cut in the new one to install it without removing said bench

Let me know if you need any futher information.

Thanks So much

So I ordered parts 1,2,3,4 , however the trim panel did not come with the precut holes, so essentially its exactly the same as the one fixed in the car at the moment.

did you have to pop no 8 and the side trims out before taking the trim out. i know what you mean u pretty much ripped the trim out as it is stuck into the bench.

Is there any point to take it out if the trim came with non pre cut holes? Also does that mean you cut through the foam material of 3?

No 2 the plastic with the clips are already in underneath that trim?

what were the part nos for the side trims? Cheers,

They must have sold you the wrong item - you need 51477448200:

Check the part number on your item. If possible, return it and get the 51477448200.

Yes, you'll have to remove bottom and sides first and then you'll be able to remove (well, force out) the cross member trim:

1) remove the bottom trim

2) remove the side trims and remove (force out) the original cross member trim

3) remove the placeholder foam

4) install the mount (you'll have to order it - part 51477448230 - it's not already in the car)

5) install the cross member trim with cutouts

That part is a bit complicated because BMW have several variants of them. Which one you'll need depends on the scope of your modification. Easiest approach in terms of trims is to get "full" ones, with LHS light and RHS 12V port. But that means you'll have to do the wiring change.
If you don't want to change the wiring but you still get the "full" side trims you'll get holes where 12V port and extra light should be, etc.

Let me know if you want me to elaborate on that futher.

so basically i don't need the foam part as thats already in the car

I'll go and return them and switch it over and let you know how i go with the installation.

If i was to have the 12 V and light for the side trim do you ahve that item no?

Also what is the item no for the loading sill cover in metal?

Yep, you can throw that foamy placeholder away once you're done.

The needed parts for the full side trims retrofit are:

51477477013 - trunk trim, left
51477477014 - trunk trim, right
51477477015 - side member pad, left
51477477016 - side member pad, right
51479875902 - luggage net (right side)
51479875903 - tensioning strap (left side)
51477258562 - bag hook (2x needed - one for left side, one for right side)
51477271174 - tie-down ring (2x needed as well)
51477274764 - tie-down ring cover (2x needed as well)

You'll also need 12V port and extra light (separate parts).
I myself took a different route and my trims have different part numbers (*195 and *196). Because of that I can't guarantee that the above list is exhaustive and there won't be some hand fitting required.

I will face the same problem once my car arrives in 2 months. Unfortunately, in my country, shadow line trim is bound to the MP package, and that is quite a must have. I will look into this trunk mod once my car is here.
That's a real class act from bmw.

BTW: could you please edit your two posts and delete the quoted parts? It would greatly improve thread clarity. Thanks.

Yeah, like I mentioned before there are quite a few of these side trims.
Which one you should choose depends on the extend of modifications.

I myself used *195/*196, sourced some of the small parts separately and then did some hand fitting. That's because I didn't want to modify the electric wiring.

It ended up looking like this:

So no light on the left side, no 12V on the right side. If I was to this again now I would probably make an extension cable and hook up that light.

I recently changed my configuration and noticed, that BMW changed quite a few details.
Now, even if you dont take the MP package, the car comes with a loading edge trim in plain plastic.
BMW cheaped out on a lot of equipment increased the price of the car.

Thank you very much for the photos and the work done.

I am interested in the reference number of the additional trunk light.

In the future, after seeing this process, I will still install the second light in the trunk
