Help: M4 Cab vs M2!

Yes, yes I know these are apples and oranges. I know you guys fully understand that what car you pick depends on what cars would flank it, objectives etc! Put this in M2 section too in case someone there has owned both.

Let me give some background...

The stable:

15 Huracan - main toy for nearly 3 years
17 Land Cruiser - Family car, occasional wheeling
68 Charger - classic hot rod toy
05 CL55 - daily car which M2 or M4 cab will replace. Near new and ultra low miles

About me:
We have a 2 year old and one in oven. I love a variety of vehicles as you prob noticed. We are moving to SoCal in a few months. Though I am generally not a convertible person (though I've had M Roadster, NSX-T, S2k, SL, Elise to name a few), I was thinking it might be cool to have a droptop in CA. I was also thinking I haven't had a manual since my 997TT so am craving one! I was originally thinking 993 or 997 S or C4S Cab. But after researching room for carseats a rearward facing one is next to impossible! Not to mention room for other crap. Plus, although no where near the Huracan it is still another serious sports car...

So I focused on M4 and figured I would drop it on some killer wheels to harden it then declare game over. Family-convertible-cruiser-canyon-carver.
However... the purist in me also loves the M2. And I just drove one for the first time today!!! What a cool little car. Reminds me of my Z3 and Z4 M Coupes. Just a #+*@ the establishment sort of car... unabashedly fun... AND a decent back seat unlike my old coupes. New M2 just about for the price of a low mileage 15 M4 convertible.

I am really struggling with this one... Trying to imagine which might be the most enjoyable ownership proposition. The M2 is simple hobby like fun. The M4 would be fun and also have a "pimp factor" which I suppose can be both good and bad haha.

Of course I know its my decision. But perspective always helps confirm whichever we might subconsciously be leaning!

Thoughts? And Anyone here owned both?

You want a vert so go with that and get m4. Better to wait for s55 equipped m2 anyway

I would wait for the S55 powered M2 if you decide to go that route.

How much does the interior matter to you. I ask because you stated the new car will be your DD. M4 interior > M2 interior hands down, especially if you opt for full leather (which is the only way to go IMO).

Considering the other cars in your stable, I would go M4 vert. It's different enough than what is already there.

M2's are going to get updated with the S55 soon, so if you want one, wait. Meanwhile the M4 is a great option for a bit more room, more power, and of course why would you move to California with so many cars and NOT have a convertible amongst them!?!?!

BTW, welcome to SoCal! See you at the Malibu Cars & Coffee. If you see a white F80 that doesn't belong there, say "hi", it's probably me.

Several had mentioned the new engine coming to the M2. However, I suspect the car might also be $10-$15K more which to me begins to work against it being a simple fun and relatively cheap little toy. Also I’m thinking if you put anywhere near the same $10k-$15k worth of mods into existing engine it would be significantly stronger no?

Thanks for the warm welcome to SoCal btw ;-)

M4 Vert would be my pick. I've driven the M2 and while it is a fun little car (still heavy) the Crapola interior just kills if for me. Agree with others on waiting for the S55 version. That's gonna be the one to own. It Might even have ///M mirrors

Don't forget the cooling system of s55 vs n55. That's $$$ to mod also

I highly doubt the car would cost enough to overlap with base m3 because s55 m2 is replacing the n55 m2

Given the other toys you have I think the drop top 4 seats body style will be more fun anyway. You'll use it as a street only cruiser, right?

Cruisin in a vert in Socal is not to be missed.

I've owned many M3s and a non-comp F82. I now have an F83 comp pack. Last week I got to drive an M2 and an M3 comp pack on a short road course. I've also driven both a non-comp F 82 and an F82 comp pack on the same course. IMHO, the F82 comp pack is exceptional. The M2 handles and breaks well, but is under powered and suffers from non-linear power delivery and more lag. Nice car, but not nearly a comp pack M4. The F83 is a great four seat vert, but the added weight and inherent structural weakness makes it much less of a car than the F82. I also don't think the F83 with the top up looks that good, especially from the rear. Top down, it's great. F82 and M2 look great from all angles. I want to swap my F83 for an F82 comp pack. With the comp pack, BMW really improved the F82. It's a winner.

Going full leather really dresses up the interior of the car.

One more thing, the M2 is small inside. Probably fine if you are under 6' and thin.

Even the M3/4 are smaller. I'm 6'4" and have had other large humans in my car and we are rubbing shoulders at times.
