I thought the diesel fuel over here was crap or something. It seems like all the diesels this side of the pond run and sound like tractors.
I went for a ride in my cousin's E60 530d in England a couple of years ago. It was really peppy, particularly at higher speeds. |

Yes, the sulphur content is too high in diesels. But in the US, they are rolling out right now diesel fuel with lower sulphur content, and they are supposed to do so in Canada as well.
So as of 2007-2008, the Euro diesel engines (with piezzo DI) can be had here as well. Audi, MB and BMW have all indicated their desire to introduce diesels here (VW of curse is also gonna). Last edited by Bimmerista; 08-01-2006 at 10:38 AM.. |

Plus, I can make my kids work as child labour to afford the payments - hey I'll even drive them to work on Chabannel in the new x5 (Note to child wellfare agencies: this is a joke) Last edited by Bimmerista; 08-01-2006 at 10:39 AM.. |

Ha ha Tom, you are quite the schemer, aren'tyou? Actually, she is the last person to say NO to a new X5!!! She's take it in a heartbeat! It's me who would have the heart attack trying to afford it! One more year, and we can get another CPO X5 from '04 with xDrive, and we'll be good for another 3 years!

Okay guys, what do i do?
The dealership (or BMW or Bridgestone) has offered to pay for half of my replacement tires, since I have approx. 25,000kms on them. I'm not sure how much it's going to be yet. Do I accept this? The noise only started recently so it's conceivable that I did enjoy flawless perdormance for at least half their life. The implication here though, is that if I pay half, then the effective life of the tire is only 50,000kms? Or do I try and negotiate a credit on different non-RFT tires? (not likely since it's warranty issue). Or do I take the deal, buy different tires, install them, and sell the RFTs on eBay?(complicated)

Not to mention that I have to roll on these crappy tires for another few months before this happens again. Not thrilled about that. I have to talk to Gilles or Michel to try and solve this in a better way.

Still, the fact that you don't actually want a new set of RFTs makes it a pretty lousy deal for you IMO. |

Indeed it does. I like your transmission anaolgy, although you're right, trannys can go for hundreds of thousands of kilometres.
Plenty of people here and at bimmerfest are getting into the same range of kms as me, and having similar problems. Maybe I should call Transport Canada.

Definately try to negociate a better deal.
Like windshield wipers, tires are expected to wear out and require replacement over time. However, they are not expected to make the ungodly noise they make as they wear out. Non-RFTs do not start howling after 25ks. Therefore the wear on them already is IRRELEVANT. They are supposed to be quiet until death. I would use the above as a starting argument for the proposition that they should simply replace them irrespective of wear. (Subsidiarily, you would be willing of course to accept something less than 100% but higher than 50% and this line of argument can only help you get there). Try my argument-there is logic to it; especially since your rep may know you to be a good customer and that you are loking for another x5.... |

Thanks Alex, i knew I could count on your lawyer's perspective. I'll see how far I can get with this deal and then try and switch them to 4 regular tires free LOL!

The other thing I would think you could negociate on is the milleage you'll get out of them. Driving straight ahead on the highway you should get more than 50,000kms. After all your usage up until now (i.e. while the novelty of the car hasn't yet worn off) doesn't really accurately reflect your future, more restrained and mature usage. Right??
