BMW 116i w/ Performance Exhaust
Hi
I have a BMW 116i e87 and I would like to purchase a BMW Performance exhaust. I've been told that the sound is much better and of course the look as well. But what about the performance? Will I gain power? If so, how much hp, torque? If there's no gain, I'll have to look for so.th. else. Please inform me. |

Trust me buddy, that exhaust tip (and almost all other exhaust tips) would only give you a "downgrade" in performance.
I got a 120 and I fitted a P exhaust on my ride,I have to admit that the sound is pretty wild, but I can easily sense that there's an obvious loss of torque at the low rev, which is compensated at high rev thanks to the exhaust tip.So if you drive offensively,I recommend you the P exhaust and the KN filter,if not,go with stock. |

Well,no diesel BMW available in China for now,if it's not for ever...
If you are a high rev driver,I think akrapovic exhaust and KN 69 induction kit will do you just fine. |

Akrapovic is nice, I've got some friends with e92 M3 with Akrapo exhausts (check out the vids here: www.youtube.com/user/vdvpj; a red one and a blue one, both with performance parts) |

If you wanna both gain some power and torque,I think you'd better change the stock manifold, and keep the exhaust tip stock, then install a KN high-flow filter and do some ECU tuning, that's gonna help.
Akrapovic is nice but the price is way too high,I think changing a set of light weight rims would be a better option. |

You won't get much gains from changing just the muffler. If you want actual gains then you'll need a full system from the headers along with tuning, which would add up to over $5,000 - i.e. not worth it.
Better to just enjoy it as is and leave performance to your other cars

Thanks for the help guys
Very much appreciated! I'm going to keep it stock I think, at least for now. It'll cost me too much money for the gain I'll get. In a couple of years maybe I'll be driving a 1 M coupe or a JCW. That'll be much more fun. Thanks! -PJ |
