That's pretty funny. I take it BMW is still producing this engine with the same faulty pump and turbo?

Damn man, BMW got nailed in the latest reliability survey, they really need to step it up. No one is going to pay 60-100k for a car with problems like this.

Faulty fuel pump...There's nothing wrong with the turbo (the problem was with the waste gate but that actually has been fixed). The engine still suffers from insufficient cooling to cylinders 5 & 6.

Classic! I love the jab at the x-5m, couldn't agree with Hitler more. Just as a sidenote, when I had to have my car towed to the dealer recently and described the symptoms the rep filled in 335i on the paperwork as a reflex. Apparently that's the first thing that comes to mind when they hear about erratic idle and stalling. I don't think I could own an n54 car out of warranty.

It's not quite as bad as people make it out to be. BMW NA is giving a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on the high pressure fuel pumps and changing one is about as difficult as replacing an alternator. Usually they give some warning of impending failure and it's uncommon (though not unheard of) for people to be left stranded by a bad fuel pump.

sleeping problem on all of these direct injection cars is carbon buildup on the intake valves.
