991 GT3 Owner Considering Adding M2C
Hey all - Have lurked bimmerpost for years and admired BMWs from afar (both of my brothers are BMW fans with one owning an awesome E46 M3).
Work in NYC (live in NJ) and don't drive to work so have never needed a car but have always loved them since I was a little kid so as soon as I started to make decent income I bought one to drive on the weekends and to go see family in MD/DC ~1 weekend per month. Car progression has been MK6 GTI -> w204 AMG C63 -> 991.1 CS -> 991.1 GT3 that I currently own. The GT3 is in PTS Mexico Blue and I absolutely love it but I only try to bring it out when the weather is nice and have logged quite a few (~8.5k) miles on it mostly driving back and forth to see family in the DMV. I have been contemplating adding another car to the stable for when I need to do the monthly ~500 round-trip drive home, run errands, pick someone up from the airport and fit luggage, drive in the rain...etc. Looked at some SUVs including a Range Rover Sport but they were pretty boring and if I'm not in my GT3 I still want an entertaining, exhilarating drive, which brings me to the M2C. I saw one parked by my place the other day and it stopped me in my tracks. Was always an admirer of the OG but upon doing research and hearing about the engine and suspension as well as the interior updates for not much more $$ I was very interested. Long story short, what are your thoughts on adding an M2C to a GT3 stable and using the M2C for longer highway drives and flogging it when I get to my destination, transporting more than one hand rolled luggage, and driving when there is more than one raindrop or flake of snow on the ground? To similar? Am I crazy? tl;dr: Only drive weekends, single, own GT3 that I want to keep miles low on, M2C for longer drives and slightly inclement weather? Thanks for reading! |

in your situation, you'd be crazy not to buy an m2c if you had the financial flexibility to own both of those at the same time. I don't have either, but I've seen many m2 and m2c owners on here that have other "nicer" cars.
is there anything holding you back from purchasing? is there anything wrong with spending a lot less on a second hand og m2 for your beater? |

I think it could be a nice addition to the garage - the driving experience should be different enough (M2C more comfortable and quieter, but still has a lot of torque and bang for your buck) in comparison to the GT3.
Beautiful car by the way.

What transmission is the GT3 and what trans are you considering for the M2C?
If they will be different (1 manual, 1 auto), then it seems like a fantastic idea! |

You can probably fit one large piece of luggage and a backpack in the trunk, or two carry-ons. (I'm guesstimating). Also, you can always fit a bag or two in the back seat. |

For the longer highway bombing, I'd go with a 2017 m3 or m4 competition. Better ride and adjustable suspension. I've seen prices of $85k drop down to around $60k now. Excellent value and a better highway cruiser than an m2.
I want the gt3 myself! Not much variety, but I'd get an AWD turbo for worse weather and driving on the highway. Any 991 from 2014. |

I've driven a 991.1 GT3 a few times. The M2C won't touch the performance of the GT3, but will be much more comfortable on long trips. Also a plus for putting kids or adults in the back for short trips as well.
Do it! |

I am all for it.
I've had a few GT3s; currently drive a .2 991 manual. I added the LCI M2 as my DD and have a M2C incoming. I use my M2 as my daily no worry fun. I find these cars excellent drivers. My roots are with my previous E46 M3s so maybe I am partial. Either way, I find the M2 and expect to find the M2C to fulfill my daily need for fun. I expect and believe the M2C will deliver more of what I might have been missing with my current M2. |

I'd say just keep using the GT3. Don't worry about mileage. Live for today...like you have been. Save the extra money for maintenance and repairs. I prefer minimalism. You work/live in NYC like me so surely you understand.

I find the m2 is a great little short run bomber. I wouldn't consider it a great long range cruiser. Lack of adjustable suspension really comes into play. If you would go a bit bigger, I'd even suggest an M5. The m2 is pretty choppy on bad roads, you won't notice this on a test drive, trust me. Personally, avoid the SUV at all costs!

My M2c is being built right now. For me I plan to sell my M2c for a 718GT4. As a daily the S-class coupe looks interesting but I worry I may hate the boat feel but like the luxury.

You can fit more than that - I fit 3 medium suitcases and 3 backpacks/carry-ons.

Looks like a lot of GT3 guys here. Nice and makes sense! I guess the next logical thing is to check it out in person and luckily there is both a black and HS in the area.

Yeah I would do a test drive of that or the OG M2, check out the luggage situation. Also since you asked about luggage maybe do a test drive of an f80 m3 as well just so you can be sure what size of car you want.
