Is there an ammo shortage all over the US or is that only a CA thing?

It's an everywhere thing. Haven't seen any 9mm, 45, or any other popular calibers in stock since about June. You can still find them online but you'll pay a premium (50+ cents a round for 9mm for example).

Sorry, my bad english again brings me - you probably do not quite understand. I didn't mean that semi-automatic rifles are bad. I meant that this is my first rifle after shotguns, and I believe that my first rifle should be the bolt carbine.
Because the bolt carbine - a classic! I am first of all a hunter, and I try to honor the traditions of classic hunting. One shot one kill! Well, and as noted above - it is considered more accurate, simpler and more reliable.
Of course, in the future I will also buy a semi-automatic rifle, which is more convenient for driven hunts (perhaps this word is wrong - when collective hunting in the forest is carried out), for example.

I am amused by your knowledge of Russia and its laws )) For reference: in Russia you can own 5 pieces of shotguns and 5 pieces of any rifled weapon. Quite enough to overthrow the government, I believe )
The only restrictions are that you cannot keep a gun (pistol) at home (only in a club if you are engaged in gun shooting), and fully automatic rifled weapons are prohibited.

My first rifles were bolt action because they are primarily hunting rifles. Main thing is they are more reliable than semi-auto. Nothing worse than lining up a shot and getting a malfunction. Now if you want to just blow through ammo at the range, semi all day.

same thing i do for my hunting shotguns. i have a handful of semi and pump shotguns, but my go to for hunting is my over under. the only issue ive ever had with it is i have apparently become a terrible shot with a shotgun based on my dove hunts last weekend.

As for accuracy, you can get a semi that is very accurate now a days, so its kind of a moot point. but not too long ago, bolts > semi in terms of accuracy.

All that being said, when i go hog hunting, semi auto AR15 in 300 blackout all day every day. mainly cause you can just let loose with it.

Its nationwide.
One of the reasons i like having a .40 though. I can still find ammo and shoot. Trying to find 9mm or 45acp right now is like finding a needle in a haystack

Thank god I got 50k of 9mm, 45, 223 and 22lr stashed up in the last decade.

I've been liquidating a lot of my collection. 300% ROI, why not?

Thanks for the respect, but I can't claim it. I'm simply replying with what I've been told.

I don't even own a bolt rifle, but I own more semi's than is allowed in Russia :-)

And.... I'm not sure about laws in other areas but I have lived in places where you can not hunt with a semi. So, that should enter into the equation.

Wait a minute...50,000 rounds?? It doesn't even matter if that's of each calibre or not...frick that seems like a lot. I have maybe 150 rounds of .45, maybe 50 shells, and probably about 50 rounds of .308. And I'm feeling ok. That was me stocking up so to speak lol. You are in a different world than I am though, that's for sure!

Yeah, if it was in each round you'd pretty much be required to post a pic so I can feast my eyes on it.

I honestly didn't expect someone from CA to have that much...not sure why, but I just didn't. Sort of a nice surprise.

You do know that there are a ton of gun enthusiasts in California right? Calguns has 350k members, almost just as much as the whole Bimmerpost forum.

Other than the coastal cities (Bay Area and LA county) almost all other cities are red and are shall issue CCW.

For a person that really enjoys shooting, and does it often, 50,000 rounds is not that much. A professional pistol shooter will do nearly that much in one year.

I have a pistol class this weekend where I will shoot about 800 to 1,000 rounds of 9mm.

True, but the population of CA is something close to 40M though isn't it? While I'm sure there are a lot more enthusiasts that aren't on Calguns, if you were to take just that population, it isn't even 1% of CA's population. I'm not putting CA down, beautiful state, but I thought I'd heard it is a decent bit more restrictive on firearms than other states. Might be wrong though.

Typically, only enthusiasts join forums and talks about the hobby with other enthusiasts. Do you think a person who buys a 328/330 and keeps it bone stock the life of its car will join a forum? Highly unlikely.

The survey, published by the peer-reviewed medical journal BMJ in the magazine “Injury Prevention,” also says that one in seven Californians, an estimated 4.2 million people, owns a firearm.

If that is true, then Calguns only represents <1% of the gun owners in CA.

California does have strict gun laws that were passed in the past few years. Luckily for me, I finished my gun collection 10 years ago before all these laws were passed.

AG Becerra filed a petition for an En Banc hearing with the full panel of 9th circuit judges after the 3 panel group ruled it unconstitutional. Mag ban is in effect until outcome of this.

9th circuit doesn't bode well for the outcome.
