There seems to be a trim piece or light strip connecting the taillights to the BMW logo.

Definitely a trim piece, doesn't look like it is part of the rear lights... probably going to end up black or chrome or possibly metallic silver/grey

Camouflage is what you're seeing.

Nothing more, nothing less.

It's a practicality vs. size thing. I love the size of my lady's M2, but the practicality of our F80. At some point in the not too distant past, BMW had sedans that hit that 2er size "sweet spot" which also retained the characteristic RWD setup - but they don't offer anything like that anymore.

Many, myself and M3 Adjuster included, have been saying that a small, M2-sized sedan (getting full M treatment, RWD, and MT option) would sell like hotcakes. They just refuse to make it.

The funny thing is that BMW created this segment (small, sporty, MT, RWD coupes and sedans) where no one else really even competed, and then forgot about those defining attributes, which allowed their competition to catch up...

The approach is just baffling - why any company would take the most known and differentiating characteristics associated with their brand (see examples above), toss them aside, and just get in line with everyone else, seems counter-intuitive to me.

Well said. I still don't understand why the fwd vehicles aren't all just MINIs, that poor brand could use any help they could get these days.

I've been researching the possibility of just building an S54 E46 sedan or wagon recently. Sort of the sweet spot of BMW dynamics (with a little subframe reinforcement.)

I am at a complete loss as well. And on top of it all, BMW only intends to create some milquetoast models while Mercedes doubles down and amps things up with sporty AMG models and even wagons that will slay this vehicle.

This is a stupid car. Stupid FWD, stupid looking low hanging muffler, stupid fake exhaust tips, stupid fake rear bumper vents and stupid looking new grille. I'm sure they sell a lot to all the stupid people.

I miss being able to have a compact luxurious sedan that delivers thrills without breaking the bank. It seems like aside from the Alfa Giulia nobody in the market will deliver this for the foreseeable future.

Sure there's the C43, S4, and M340i. But they aren't "fun" in the way you and I view that word. I was really counting on the 2er GC to fulfill this niche.
I actually had a long conversation w/ a Giulia owner the other day. He comes from owning a long line of BMWs and Porsches. Said the best car he ever owner was an 07 Cayman but had kids, so he had to give it up. Then he said the best everyday vehicle he owned was a ZHP 330i which he missed very much since getting rid of. He's had an E30, E36, E46 and E90, but thats when he stopped. He simply disliked the F30 and loved the F22 but needed 4 doors.

He bought an Alfa Giulia Q4 and said its the best car he's had in a while and reminds him of his Cayman and ZHP. He said it really is an emotional car and just feels less electronic and more raw. Luckily he's also had no issues in 2 years and 35k miles, and his dealer is paired w/ Porsche and Maserati so loaners are no problem for him and his service department is fast.

Honestly, if you have a good Alfa Dealer Network and can get a good lease deal (I still don't know if I would buy/own one long term) the Giulia is a very enticing car. You can get a 2/3 year lease for cheap. I don't plan on getting one myself, but I am going to test drive one to see if all the wonderful things I've heard about this vehicle are true.
I drove a base Giulia for a weekend last year and it was phenomenal. Literally miles and miles better than any equivalent 3-series. No comparison.

Sure the gearbox was a crappy ZF but honestly for that type of car (4 door sedan) where my expectations were super low it was just a really well engineered and fantastic car to drive. It felt communicative....
Thats great to hear, looks like all the glowing reviews tend to be accurate. I have a planned test drive on the same day as my M Town event, and also have a C43 test drive the same day, so it should be interesting to see the differences between the three vehicles. Sadly Alfa has no middle model w/ a V6 to compete against the C43 and M340, but rather a model between that of the 330 and 340, but should still be an interesting comparison none the less

I disagree that it's a stupid car but agree there are a lot of consumers willing to part with their money for substandard product (Jeep sold 240k Wranglers in the US last year). A well run company should not discriminate when it comes to accepting money from consumers so if the company can profit from selling this particular vehicle then why wouldn't they enter a market that their industry rivals are profiting from?

Man, I'm really not a fan of that double-kink in the C-pillar that this will have. It does not look sleek at all and doesn't look good on the X4 or 6GT.

I wish more "substandard" products rocked resale retention like Wranglers. BMW must really make horribly substandard products.

Perhaps this is part of their deal with Toyota. We'll build your Supras, you build our 2GC.

Looks wise though maybe a minority, pretty sleek and size appropriate. Too bad for myself it'll never be a consideration, front wheel drive:
