X-Tomi design imagines the next 5er GT
BIMMERPOST NEWS X-Tomi design imagines the next 5er GT BMW has promised us a sleeker 5-Series GT the next time around. There is no question that this is 'sleeker' then the predecesor, but it is at the same time more generic and missing the uniqueness of the predecessor. Part of the problem is that this design apes the 3-Series GT. While this may be an accurate render, I hope it doesn't go this way and rather cuts towards a more unique angle. We shall see... Oh yea, theres an M5 version in there for good measure |

Nice. A 5GT that wants to be a 4GC, and can't admit it would be better off as an F11.
You know what would look sleeker here in the US? A 5 series wagon.

It looks like all the render does is lift the trunk line a couple inches. Doesn't seem like much thought was put into this

Just stop BMW. Fugly beyond measure. I would like to chat to the stupid finance person that approve this for production. This 100% cannibalizes other cars in the line up and generates 0% incremental revenue for the company.

This would sell in Europe. US market just doesn't like hatchbacks : many models so people can choose what fits them. Unfortunately we are missing out on some great Euro cars because of this... apparently a crossover will sell here because it looks like an SUV or SAV or whatever but an Estate car (read Wagon) won't... go figure a pumped up wagon aka crossover does. The lines on a lot of wagons make the car look great...
Anyway I like the look of this, the current GT looks over sized , this is sleeker. Just my opinion.

Far far better than the current 5GT (which isn't difficult) but looks too similar to the 4GC. Yet more naming confusion me thinks.

That said, the 5GT is not a hatchback. It's effectively an SAV/crossover, and an ungainly one at that. It belongs on the end of Satan's pointy tail.

Interesting how you should think that the finance people have anything whatsoever to do with production. End product costs X, sell it for X plus %. Enter salespersons. Finance dudes pick up bonus based on salespersons good work for having done fuck all. FUBAR |

As one of the only few members on here who owns an LCI GT (and had a pre-LCI before), and attempts to make it a bit prettier (don't send the firing squad yet ), I've had the car long enough to really pick out all the different aspects of its design.
The GT was a good concept marketed in a bad way. It essentially is more so a 7 Series fastback compared rather than a 5 Series wagon, since it's based on the F01. It's a longer and wider car than the regular F10, more inline with the F01 proportions. Now, funny enough, I accidentally came across a post on BimmerBlogs recently when the F07 just debuted; they were comparing the front fascia to the likes of the E60, F01, and soon-to-be-released F10. Many had highly favorable remarks of the F07's front (from a head-on perspective), and I must agree it's one of the current GT's best features. Surprisingly, some also said the GT's rear (not from an angle, just directly behind) was well-designed. I somewhat agree, but more in regards to the LCI rear, which is much better sculpted compared to the pre-LCI. However, that roofline ended a bit too high, adding what i like to call the "frumpy trunk lump" to the rear. It should've been brought down to the lower trunk line, to make it sleeker. My ducktail CSL-esque spoiler tricks the eye into making the rear look lower, and the roofline flow into the spoiler instead. Also, I think the greenhouse could've been a bit smaller and more raked in, and the side should've had deeper creased bodylines to reduce the bloat (darker colors suit the GT better IMHO). Also, the stupidly higher ride height (caused by more wheel gap and larger fender arches) looks awful, hence why lowering it made such a big difference. However, taking all these cues into account, I did my best to accentuate the more attractive features of the GT, and reduce the flaws. Despite the canvas I'm working with, my old one did change many opinions on the GT, including my own. I still see a stock GT on the road and think, "BMW, what the hell were you trying to do?" but owning and modifying one has given me a lot of insight into the platform and made me realize its potential. That along with the massive popularity my old GT gained on social media (now at 41,000 followers on my instagram, @TheBlackGT), made the chance to grab the new LCI with M-Sport (which is majorly improved over the last GT) one I couldn't pass up, to really show the current 5GT's true potential. I know many of you question my sanity, but trust me, it will be worth all the effort once it's done. I personally think the GT should've been debuted as a 7GT (and also not raised in height); it would've changed the way people felt about it. Despite the size, with the coilovers it handles much smaller and sharper than one would think, and with the N63TU moves like hell (my old N63 with BMS knocked out some pretty fast cars, imagine this one once it's tuned). However, i know this one will be on the new modular G30 platform, and possibly will be called the 6GT (no clue why). The design is alright, but reminds me a bit of the 3GT. Albeit sleeker, it loses some of the presence the current 5GT has. Anyone who's driven alongside my GT (current or previous) says the car has a certain level of aggression to it, but that's really because of the low stance and modifications as well (sorry stock GTs ) I await to see the new one debut in the next two years or so; till then i'm on a mission to create the GT that BMW should've made. I know this post may be TL;DR, but just wanted to share my thoughts. P.S. Forgive my shameless plug, but i'll be revealing my new GT once it's complete in the next few weeks. A lot of world's firsts will be debuted on the car, including wheel design, F07-specific coilovers, etc. I hope whoever views it appreciates what the GT can truly be. [IMG][/IMG] P.S.S. forgive me for any grammar/spelling mistakes, I wrote this pretty late, sometimes my thoughts translate to somewhat odd wording on paper

Unfortunately the illustration is still a 4er GC.
G32 will be more modern and more sleeker than the current GT with distinguishing features such as raised rear quarter lights and a pop-up spoiler to help make the car look less bulky at the rear. The interior is as impressive as before.

Although the 5GT never sold much, it did actually end up beating the old 5 series wagon sales, which was the goal from the start. Coming from someone who detests the GT how it comes from the factory, I think the new GT can definitely be more of a crowd pleaser this time around. If 41,000 people can follow my current GT, which is already a bit *hmmm* in its design, I can imagine the new one (especially modified in similar fashion to mine) can definitely amass an even larger following. However, if the new one is pretty from the get-go, it will make the reward of being told, "Wow, never liked a GT until I saw yours," a little less special, but I'm willing to accept that

I currently have the 2010 535 GT, it is very special car.
Beside its questionable design of the rear end, it is a very good car. The car looks really massive and powerful, from some angles it looks even better than the F10. I don't think there was anyone who was not impressed by the car after been driven in it. With the LCI model, they even fixed the rear end, but it was already a too late to salvage GT's reputation. As mentioned, the GT is more like a 7 hatchback than 5, but yet again, the 6 and cylinder G30 are also half G11. Interior and built quality in F10 and F07 (GT) are actually very similar, except the GT is more spacious and has that fantastic elevated "command" seating position. The problem with GT is that they wanted to preserve handling of the F10, so they had to make suspension very stiff. Finally the only thing they accomplished is to make it feel every single bump and pothole which should never happen in this class of car. On the other hand, the car still handles like a cow on the curvy roads with lots of body roll. It keeps traction while it is in the balance, but once you't out of balance, it's really bad and difficult to regain the balance. Mine does not have the adaptive drive, I expect that the situation is a bit better with it. Since in the meanwhile, BMW really improved drivabilty of its large vehicles (X5 first of all), I'm very confident that the new GT will be much better. Taking all of that into account, I would prefer to take the new GT due to roomier interior, command seating position and more comfortable ride. It's just that I'm not in a mood to wait that long, so I will take the G30. (btw F07 was out one year before F10, now the situation is the opposite, so there is almost a 9 year gap between two generations of GTs). Last edited by Laki021; 10-24-2016 at 12:12 PM.. |
