IPOD MOST integration

Hey all, first post... I am currently driving a 2003 325xi and have a brand new 330i on its way!! Anyway, I've been an Dension icelink user (for my ipod) for a couple years and have been anticipating what to do when my e90 comes in...

Well... I was browsing around the dension site and came across this:

http://www.dension.com/icelinkgateway500.php

Isn't this what we've been finally waiting for??

That wouldn't make sense...The last icelink product I had plugged into the cd-changer pre-wiring in the trunk (I didn't have a cd-changer).

The pictures on the website appear to be able to connect to the "head-unit" or OEM CD-changer connector.

so you only need to have it "pre wired" but not have the actual changer itself? i have been under the wrong impressions since i first heard about icelink lol.. thanks for clearing that up

Yup I can't speak for the newest e90 icelink, but the icelink-plus I had for the e46 car pluged right in to the pre-wiring in the trunk and worked great. So, I'm just assuming it will work similarly

Ha ha...I'm a newbie, i couldn't find the OMG smilely!!! But, seriously, I have been checking the dension site and several forums religiously. It's nice to finally see a product shot at least of the thing.

On a more serious note... My new 330i (SG, terra, manual, non-sport, PP, heated seats, nav, pdc, sirius, CA) is on its way!! (can I get a roundel dance yet??? ha ha)

The 800 number says "In Transit to the port of exit". How long until it'll get here?

The Dension page states that it supports mass storage USB devices. Forget about Ipods - if you can add an external USB 3.5 inch hardrive enclosure you could have 300 GB of mp3's for peanuts. If you could navigate these via the idrive and sat nav screen that would be much superior to adding an IPOD.

Wow.. this is indeed a big news. I've had my 60gig ipod sitting in my center console since I had my car. Kudos to orangelax44 for breaking this news.

Now, time to call Dension to find out the details...

I really don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but this is NOT the US version of the product. You are looking at dension.com and not densionusa.com.

I just got off the phone with Jessie from Dension USA. A US version of this will not be available for another 4-6 weeks. But Jessie told me this months ago, so I'm not too optimistic.

Sorry guys, I really want one too.

is there a difference for MOST from the euro version to the one we get here? but in all reality US has a huge BMW population so it wouldnt make any business sense NOT making an adapter for us. esp. if theyre the first ones to do it. hopefully itll be sooner than later.

I'm not sure. I'd guess the European part will work, but it'd mean experimenting with ordering from overseas and then working with overseas tech support. It's a new part and will probably have bugs, just like other Icelink versions did. I'm not too keen on working with local tech support in a situation like that, let alone overseas tech support.

I have no doubt that Dension USA will release the part. The problem is that they have been dragging their feet for over a year now. I keep hearing 4-6 weeks.

If you want to help convince them to expedite the release, call them and ask to be added to their e-mail list for the e90. The more people that call, the better chance we have of seeing this in 2006: Jessie Wise, Dension USA, tel 866.822.3673 x121 is who I spoke to.

Okay. Don't flame me. What is so cool about this thing? What does it do? I don't have iDrive but there is CD changer pre-wiring of course. Is it any use to me over and aboe using my iPod in the aux connector in the arm rest?

Thanks

Although this device may be electrically/optically compatible with the E90's media bus interface, I doubt that it will seamlessly integrate with I-Drive. Remembering the pain I went through just to get my I-Drive upgraded to play MP3's (CIP 20) from the existing CD players, I am guessing this thing will not work out of the box

The only way I think that it may possibly work out the box, is if they employ some hack like making an attached harddrive or IPOD look like a virtual CD drive to the I-drive software.

Yeah I reckon that would work. In fact I think I recall seeing this advertised for the E46 a while ago. Problem is (I think) that you have to disconnect the stacker (from memory) ie: it's one or the other. Personally, if I could plug in a 300GB hardrive (actually even a 20GB HDD would be enough) I would take that over the CD stacker any day

I'm wondering if it will be able to work if you have Sirius already? I think you can't have both Sirius and the CD changer. I assume this would be similar.

Excuse my ignorance, but does anyone know whether my E91 (assume same for E90) is likely to have pre-wiring for cd changer in it already? I don't have iDrive, just Professional cd/radio system.
If so, where is it??
