Has anyone used the new GoPro HERO6 Black with the BMW M Laptimer?

Getting a new HERO6 Black and I need to know whether it integrates with the BMW M Laptimer.

My HERO4 Silver works just great with the BMW M Laptimer. I know that when GoPro introduced the HERO5 Black last year or in late 2016 it took awhile for it to work with the M Laptimer, but there were major changes between the HERO4 and the HERO5. It seems like the HERO6 is just a fairly minor upgrade to the HERO5.

Anyone know if the HERO6 works with the M Laptimer?

I have a Hero 6 but can you teach me how to install the M Laptimer in my M4 so I can control the cam and tell you if it works?

You need to have an iPhone or Ipod Touch. The M Laptimer app will not work with Android. I bought the iPod Touch specifically to use the M Laptimer and also for music storage n the car because I'm an Android guy and don't own an iPhone.

On your iDevice, download and install the M Laptimer and the GoPro apps from the Appstore. In the GoPro app, set up an account if you haven't already done so, and log in.

In your car, the M Laptimer will be installed from your iDevice into iDrive using ConnectedDrive. The GoPro app will connect to your GoPro via the GoPro built-in Wi-Fi and control the GoPro, and when the iDevice is plugged into your car, the iDevice will control the GoPro through the M Laptimer app in iDrive.

Make sure that your GoPro is connected via a power cable to a 12V port in the car. I use a dual 12V/USB adapter in a 12V port. Make sure your car is on. Turn on the GoPro and in Setup, turn on wireless and select GoPro App.

On your iDevice, start the GoPro app. Go into the Wi-Fi settings on your iDevice and change your Wi-Fi settings to connect to your GoPro. There should be instructions in the GoPro app telling you how to do this. Your iDevice and your GoPro should be talking to each other and you should be able to control the GoPro with your iDevice. Make sure that this is working correctly before you proceed.

Plug your iDevice into the USB port in the center console and start the M Laptimer on the iDevice.

In iDrive, select ConnectedDrive from the main menu. Scroll all the way down until you see BMW Apps, Connection Assistant, M Laptimer. Select M Laptimer and it should load into iDrive and then display on the iDrive screen. The M Laptimer app on your iDevice should say that it is connected to BMW.

In iDrive, in the M Laptimer app, on the main screen, you should see a video camera icon. Scroll down and select this. If your GoPro is on and connected to the GoPro app on your iDevice, you should see whatever is on the GoPro screen on your iDrive.

In iDrive, go back to the home screen of the M Laptimer app and the first entry will be a start flag icon. Select this and the GoPro should start the M Laptimer and the GoPro should start recording. Selecting Stop (the square icon) in the M Laptimer app in iDrive should stop the M Laptimer and stop the GoPro.

It's a bit involved, but once it's set up correctly, you should be able to just start the GoPro app on your iDevice, and then select the M Laptimer app under ConnectedDrive. Good luck! If you can't get it to work, it may be that the M Laptimer doesn't yet support the HERO6, but since the HERO6 is an upgraded HERO5, that shouldn't be a problem.

I actually tried it yesterday with my 2016 M4 and it works just like the above post says. I was trying it out because I am going to try an autocross event in two weeks.

Wondering the same. Looking for a way to get the GoPro video + laptimer info as overlay on the video (speed, position, g forces etc).

I got the hero 6 to work sort of. As long as it is not in sleep mode, it will activate the camera to start and stop recording. However, the video is not making it into the mlap timer app. So I end up with data about the drive in the app and a video on go pro with NO way of combining the two.

I looked for a few hours and tried a few different software applications and none of them can read the data from mlap timer.

I'm still using my hero 4 silver. Flawless integration with idrive and the M laptimer.

The reason I asked originally is that months ago, after we placed our order for my wife's M3 CP for Euro Delivery, my dealer offered me a new GoPro in exchange for footage documenting the Euro Delivery experience that they will use internally for marketing purposes. He said that he was fine with whichever one I wanted. I told him that if I were going to buy one for myself, it would be the current HERO6 Black.

Last Thursday we went in and signed our final financial docs. He ordered the HERO6 Black from Amazon on Monday to be shipped directly to me. It's scheduled to arrive on July 5. We leave on July 14 and our delivery date is July 18.

We won't be driving any tracks on this Euro Delivery like we did in 2016 for my M4, so this isn't an immediate issue. I already have a HERO4 Silver which I bought for our 2016 ED and have used many times at the track. If the HERO6 doesn't integrate as well as the HERO4, I'll just continue to use the HERO4 for my track sessions.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

Nice, that's a pretty cool promotional tool for the dealer. Enjoy your trip and have fun with the car!

Well, to answer the question that I asked in the first post, yes, a GoPro HERO 6 Black will integrate with the BMW M Laptimer. At least it did on my 2016 M4.

Since I already had the GoPro app and the M Laptimer app installed on my iPod Touch, and I had previously set up my HERO 4 Silver, setup for the HERO 6 took just a minute or two following the procedure that I outlined earlier in this thread, although I first ad to add the HERO 6 to the GoPro app on the Touch.

Here's a short video clip to show that everything worked correctly:
