2022 228i X drive with Dinantronics Sport Module/K&N Typhoon CAI

Hey everybody, so my last car was a 2019 Mini Cooper S, I had the K&N cold air intake that I took off before returning my lease as well as my DINAN Tronics sport module. I have posted previously that the K&N intake fits in the car, but the mass airflow sensor does not line up with my particular intake, and K&N not make an intake for the F44 228I yet.

I finally put my sport module in a few weeks ago. At that time Dinan did not list a sport module available for the F44 228I, but knowing that my module was made for a B46 engine I installed it and it fits perfectly, and the car feels incredibly faster. I just checked DINAN‘s website today and they now list this module 228I as fitting for the F44.

It has the same performance claims as the burger tuning module, and states up to 30 hp and 40 torque when in a race plus mode. I highly recommend this module for anyone looking for a quick horsepower gain with the ease-of-use to take it off when you take the car back in for service.

On my Mini Cooper whenever I took the car in I would simply unclip the module and the dealer never knew, it does not show that the car has been tuned. On the mini Cooper every now and then I did get boost pressure sensor codes, but I believe that was because I was running it and race plus on 91 octane, when 93 is recommended. So now I am using 91 octane and VP racing fuels octane booster.

I would avoid any gizmo that suggests performance gains from a little box with just one or even two connections. All that device seems to be doing is boosting the turbo and just forcing more air and fuel into the engine without monitoring anything else.
Whilst it might give some gains you may well be harming other components, such as the gpf. I prefer my tuning boxes to have a degree more sophistication. But it's up to you as the end of the day..

Well considering I don’t want do an actual tune that could void my warranty…this suits my needs for now. Of course it increases the turbo boost, and even in Eco pro mode it feels much peppier. Combined with the cold air intake it sounds amazing, the blow off sounds have actually set off car alarms and I love it.

And as far as damaging anything, from what I have read no module has caused permanent damage, even if it did that’s the beauty of having a leased car. Call me selfish but I don’t care what happens to the car after I turn in the lease and the warranty expires. And obviously nor does BMW or they would recommend oil change intervals at 5 to 7k miles rather than 10k. But of course they would never do that because of the free maintenance included LMAO

Proper tuning boxes are not delectable and, if decent, have three connections. The 3rd one is very important more so on the latest eu6 and eud6 engines, as its allows a more precise tune to be created rather than just a simple “blanket” increase over the complete rev range.

The lack of an RPM connection results in a less precise tune with an increased chance of issues with DPF and OPF ( emissions filters) which are an integral part of the latest emissions regulations.

But it's your car to do with as you please..

Which tuning boxes are you referring to? I’m going to have my car for another 32 months so I would definitely consider something that offers a little more oomph

Cukeuk may I ask what your f44 model is? And please post some impressions about the performance (or non-performance ) of the tuming box?

I have a 2019 218i (with 140 hp as opposed to later 218is that have 136hp) and - while I am loving my first bmw - I wouldn't mind having some more power...

No problem, but my car is actually in my signature if you can read it.

However I have the M235i and I have used a dtuk box before, firstly on an Audi 1.4 A3 saloon and on my A4 2.0tfsi, which I had coverted by dtuk for use with the BMW B48 engine with a new loom, £159, and a new map, which was free but I had to send it to them to be reprogrammed.

I have only driven the car once but initial thoughts are that the power delivery is now more linear making the car easier to drive, but the amount of torque is phenomenal in how quickly the car accelerates. But I'm about to go on a longer run this week so I can report back more.

Unfortunately the issue might be, for any UK based company, is if you have a different engine/drivechain setup particular to the states. As I understand it you have a 228i whereas we have the 220i..

After a 160 mile run with the dtuk tuning box fitted and all of its settings currently at default I'm extremely impressed. There's no drama, no fuss, as it just goes, then just pulls and pulls and then some. Very quickly, and without realising, you are at licence losing speeds. MPG, despite driving in a very non economic manner was still averaging 40 so no impact on that either
I would now describe this car as being more of a very fast long distance coupe, more akin to it's name.
