Salary Poll
Some people struggle to make car payments. Others buy their cars with cash.
I once heard that a 50,000 dollar car is marketed towards someone with who makes more than 130,000 a year. With prices falling on the E85/86 models, more and more people can now afford the Z4. If enough people vote, those curious can see the current salary breakdown of E85/86 owners in 2011. This poll should be completely anonymous. I don't want to know how much YOU make, but just generally what type of economic group E85/86 owners are in.

My friend who's a master tech for Audi gets to test out all the newest vehicles. Recently they sent him down to GA where they lined up the A8 aganst the new 7 and S-class at the time. In their internal marketing materials, they said the car was aimed at individuals making more than 150k gross. That seems a bit low imo...

intriguing poll because the differences in affordability over the entire range of e85/e86's is large i.e. a high-mileage 2003 e85 2.5i vs a low-mileage 2008 e86 m coupe. nevertheless, i'm tied down by an enormous property loan and really don't have much discretionary income.

LOL I've realized the same thing! I have to think twice before I jump in it and go drive just for the hell of it. Gas is going up! Sucks but nothing we can do about it.

Just my salary would be misleading because I couldn't afford to own the Z4 and the X5 on my salary alone. As much as I love the Z4, I couldn't have it as my only car, so I wouldn't have it at all.

Yet, we're all Z4 owners and fans of what is essentially the same design.

If the government wants to loan me a good pile of money at 4.25% for 30 years, I'll take it (and I did). The true cost of that to me is more like 3% after the interest tax deduction. That's nothing--especially when inflation eventually kicks in. I don't see myself losing money on the investment itself over the long-term either. So, if you have good credit, a mortgage might not be such a bad deal after all...

Yeah I actually started surfing CL for a beater to use as a daily. As much as I love the M it really just is starting to kill me as far as gas and it's such a pain with all the cops around here. I started driving without sport button and just doing the speed limit and it's torture. I realized there's no point in having this car to daily drive when it gets 19mpg and I just sit in bumper to bumper traffic every day barely getting out of 3rd gear.

Company vehicle plus winter in the midwest helps on the 93 octane bill, but I can relate. Plus the damn mods........

I bet I could do the line game and match up salaries to vehicle mods or get damn close.

I got my Z4 used for $17k 5 years old, but only 9,000 miles. There is no way I could go by one of these things new. Well, I could, but I wouldn't be able to drive it between insurance, gas and home expenses. So my salary would be pretty irrelevant in this one.
