Houston we have a problem!

I discovered that placing a Phone on the wireless charger triggers the car to turn on NFC looking for a digital key signal. Problem is that iPhone sees it as an Apple Pay terminal and keeps prompting you to use Apple Pay.

Unreal. Can you not turn off the digital key function? How did they not test that? There are only a billion iPhones out there.

I drove a X5 40i today and didn't get a single prompt for the Apple Pay. My phone was on the wireless charger during the whole ride (approx 30minutes). I am not sure what features were enabled/disabled on the vehicle I drove.

That's how it's supposed to work. This has been covered by BMW. I will dig out the link in the morning. That just tells me that the firmware is indeed in the car, but BMW hasn't updated the iOS app yet.

The iOS NFC is supposed to be functional to use for comfort access. The phone must be placed on the wireless charger to start the vehicle. If I recall, there is a thread where someone explained that one "Digital Key" at a time is allowed to be assigned to the car and that any subsequent issuances will void any previous ones. See link below.

If you disable the digital key it stops this from happening.

Good. Easy fix. That would have been annoying.

That's odd, Jay. This didn't happen in the 50i I tried out here in the Middle East. Charged fine, but no prompts for Apple Pay. FWIW, it had the heated/cooled cupholders, with the different oriented charging pad, but that shouldn't make a difference.

I'm wondering if it could be because you have Apple Pay already setup so when the phone reads the NFC it doesn't need to prompt for anything, whereas it looks like Jay's phone isn't setup for Apple Pay yet.

Jay, really appreciate all your posts on here. I just picked my X5 up today and can't figure out how to disable the digital key so Apple Pay doesn't pop up when I wirelessly charge. Do you happened to remember where that option is in idrive?

Thanks so much!!!
