Question Steptronic only; is it roll backwards?

I have 1450 km on my 335i e92 steptronic.
I know that automatic transmission doesn' t roll back when you release the brake pedal, no matter the inclination of the road.
I noticed than sometimes, after releasing the brake it rolls backwards even in small inclination! If you press the accelerator, it stops and go forward. You press the brakes again for a while, and releasing it oops, it rolls backwards again.
Playing with manual shifting when stopped, in M1 it doesn' roll, in M2 you roll backwards.
Is it normal or i have won the lotto?

It always rolls backwards. Gear doesn't matter. Why wouldn't it?

Well, on an incline it initially won't roll back, as the brakes keep holding on. But after a certain period (2 or 3 secs or something), it releases the brakes.

I see the same thing -- it's normal for autos to do that (all autos I've ever driven, anyway). The only difference between them is how much incline it takes to overcome the torque converter (a little bit like letting the clutch out part way). That's why BMW has the brake-hold feature.

the hillholding function is standard on all cars AFAIK. It's to help people with manual transmissions catch the car before it rolls back. It doesn't really have much use for automatics, but it's there anyway.

Exactly! Too many people think that an automatic transmission will not roll back on an incline. Not true, as pointed out above. It is a matter of gravity vs. the torque converter. The hill assist feature will only hold for a couple of seconds, long enough to move your foot from the clutch or brake to the accelerator.

the breaks will only auto hold for about 2 seconds, but if it takes you more more than 3 seconds to switch between break to gas.. then maybe you shouldn't be driving a 3er.

Sometimes I'll roll the car back a little (go to Neutral in autos) to keep the guy behind me from getting too close on a hill stop (old habit from driving manuals for 15 years). Do it as he's coming to a stop behind you and he might stay back a little extra.

I've actually really begun to appreciate this feature driving around on serious hills. With the Auto I don't see much use really, but with a standard tranny it's very helpful.

the 335i steptronic disengages the torque converter while at a stop to save on gas, it is ussually transparent to the driver, although you might notice you dont have to push the brake as hard after a bit, because the car doesnt feel like its trying to creep forward anymore.
