'21 M2C vs '20 TTRS purchase
So I have a first world problem that I would appreciate some advice on. I have the option of getting one of the last TTRS ever made or taking ED on a '20/'21 M2C. Performance, cost, reliability, etc can be considered. Car will be sunny weather special car. Never tracked but driven 9/10s regularly on deserted roads. Both cars would have a stage 1+ tune from either BM3 or APR. Both cars would likely be right around 5% off MSRP (60k BMW, 74k TTRS). I've owned several BMWs but no Audi yet. I would especially appreciate advice from anyone who has actually owned a TTRS. Many thanks

You're not tracking, already owned other BMWs including an N55 M2 and are cross shopping.
I will simplify this for you! If you cant be without an M2, then get the M2C! You already know how an M2 feels. If you want to explore another awesome car then grab that TTRS! The straight 5, power and different handling characteristics would still extremely enjoyable! ( Its also nice to have a change in styling every now and then!) I also cross shopped a bit and decided I loved my 18' M2 too much. So I ordered the M2C

I can't stand her steering wheel, pretty thin. I found the build/trim quality good. Transmission makes me crazy but assuming the TTRS of this year is better. I prefer BMW over Audi as a rule, though the TTRS and R8 are two that catch my eye. I do think the Audi is not $14k more car though. |

one factor to consider is how much turbo lag matters to you
the s55 in the m2c feels pretty NA and non-turbo the ttrs motor definitely feels more like a turbo aside from that....as a fun car, i think the M2C probably takes the edge, the audi is fast, but in the twisties don't think it will be quite as fun. |

AWD is pretty boring compared to RWD if the point is to have fun. Same goes for auto vs manual. Either one of those would be deal breaker for the TTRS for me. Everyone's idea of fun is different though. If you like those aspects of the Audi it might be fun to have something new and different to play with.

LOL to Bumpinjeep's post!
Probably going with Daytona Gray Pearl w red interior package if I get one. Waiting to see if my ED '21 M2C works out. Also waiting to see if Audi makes the TTRS for 2021. They are continuing the TT and TTS but I don't think the 2.5l motor meets Euro CO2 standards for 2021 I've owned a 335i, 135is, and this M2. Love my BMWs but feel like trying something different. |

i believe ED is cancelled.
anyway, i have owned both BMW and Audi/VW. keep in mind that the TTRS is basically the same as the RS3. both are based on the MQB platform. this also means that even if they claim it is AWD, it really is FWD bias. i owned a Mk 7.5 Golf R for 9 months. it checked all the boxes but easily got rid of it for the M2C.

My 2 cents: I have owned an OG M2 in the past and currently own a RS3. I loved my M2 but just wanted to have another experience. I have also driven the TTRS though briefly and I’ve driven the M2C at M school. From my perspective, the Audi is a better daily driver and the BMW is a better track car. The BMW is more engaging but I enjoyed both in different ways. I would strongly suggest driving both extensively and then letting your heart / mind make that very personal decision. On a side note, if you do decide to go with the TTRS, I would suggest you also consider a tune from Unitronic in lieu of APR. Having had both on my RS3, my preference is the Unitronic tune. The APR tune is stronger in the mid range while the Uni tune is stronger up top. I also had issues with the APR TCU tune which in fairness apparently have been resolved. Hope this helps...

I'll be sure to add review after I purchase Fri and drive 1000mi back home to Jax. I can tell you all a few differences early.
1. TTRS shift paddles are disgraceful compared to M2. Short reach and light clicky plastic. Will be replaced immediately. ****EDIT: The TTRS I just bought has much nicer paddle feel compared to a specific 2019 I test drove recently! They are quiet and do not click at all. Still not as nice as M2 but I consider them acceptable for now. Difference from one car to another was shocking. 2. Stock TTRS will easily match my FBO stage 2 N55 M2. 3. M2 looks better from most angles. Not All. 4. M2C can still be ordered and customized. All TTRS have been built. Factory line changed and no more coming. 5. New TTRS on the lot can be had for 7-10% off MSRP. 6. M2 more raw and better track dynamics. TTRS has mag ride and has better road manners. 7. M2 has better HK audio. TTRS bass response on the B&O system lacking. ****EDIT: After 1000mi road trip and fiddling with system I learned a few audio tricks. Dialing the B&O bass to near maximum sounds good enough at moderate volume. Very clean sound. BMW system still better at very loud levels. 8. TTRS exhaust sounds about equal to a downpiped N55. Much, much better than S55. 9. TTRS has way better fuel econ if anyone cares. 10. Subjective but most consider the TTRS interior to be nicer. 11. Ride with 20" Audi OEM wheels is unacceptable on bad roads. The car was nearly unlivable on shi*ty NY roads. It's amazing the car survived the trip home. ** BMW forums are 10x bigger/better and more enthusiastic than Audi Last edited by trafficalert; 06-14-2020 at 09:12 PM.. |

I had the previous gen TTRS, it makes the top 3 cars I have ever had, and I have had a lot!!!
In stock form it's a little underwhelming, but with just a little in mods, it's quite phenomenal. You can dial out any understeer in it with MSS spring G's and a sway bar swap. A tune gets it into the low 3's 0-60 and Audi interiors are first class. IMO, it's a better fast street car than track car though. If you don't plan on seeing a track often, I vote for the TTRS. If you plan on lots of track time , I would skip BMW altogether and go SS 1LE or Cayman or Lotus.

Well, it's done. Picked up the TTRS 2 days ago. Flew to CT and drove it 1000mi back to Jax. It was certainly an experience and 5* for Audi Greenwich for their service. My gf and I waxed/rainXed the car in their garage before I even signed the paperwork.
I'll be doing a small sub install and swapping some fancy 19" wheels on in the next month. Car is truly fantastic in stock form. I'd like to see this thread continue since I know M2C vs TTRS is a very common cross shop for some people. If anyone needs advice or input regarding either car feel free to PM me. Probably 2 of the very best cars you can get for under $75k. |
