The design team succeeded

If the new design was universally liked, sales for current models would tank. Just judging from these posts, the design and marketing teams succeeded. *Just* enough people like it. Eventually, it will be the only option available brand new.

I just ordered a MY22 M50i (in the last 1.5 weeks). I had seen spy photos and actually wouldn't have minded the new design, but timing isn't right. I am delighted with the current design. I'd be fine with the new one. That the headlight is a split design makes it like so many others. That's not a bad thing. There is likely a reason it's popular and it may be more than aesthetics.

I thought I was going to hate it but I actually don't. Okay, BMW, you've tickled my curiosity. Curious to see how this design language will transfer to the other models.

We won't see the screen yet as it has to launch on the 7 first but I think it will move to the X7 in year 2.

I like this, barring a few oddities:

The dodgy X7 and M branding.
The xDrive with its colour mis-matched front end (I'd always get M Sport anyway).

Re the gear change, well….

I love hustling through the gears in my ultra luxo-barge SUV, said nobody ever.

Hence it has gone now.

The new X7 looks far better inside and out than the iX

The head of design lacks creativity and looks lazy to me. This is ridiculous!

I can tell you this. Porsche is more expensive, but I won't hate myself driving it.

This x7, why not just have your face tattooed with a giant phallus. it is a citroen knock off. Who is this designer? Are they on LSD? Blind? Work for the soviets?

Great new tech!! Not crazy about the split headlights but actually don't mind them either.
Hopefully it grows on me

This is an incredible upgrade, not just a minor LCI!

1. The base engine is running on Miller cycle, this is exactly the big improvement they announced a few months back! It will improve efficiency with +10%, which is incredible.
2. The V8, my goodness: more output than the S63 in the competitions! And now they finally allow torque uptill 800Nm, that's entirely new and a all time best.
3. Transmission, I presume they are still using the ZF8HP76? Maybe with the software of the M's?

For me it's clear that BMW has decided that the play time is over and that they have to go now all the way for the few years the ICE will still be around.

I've got B&W on my G05 and it's underwhelming (for the cost). The B&W system on the iX is supposed to be incredible though. Unfortunately, going by the UK website, it looks like the X7 LCI has the same 1,475w B&W system as before (the iX's is quoted at 1,615w).

Time will tell whether the LCI cars actually get the upgraded 4D system from the iX.

Yeah, not seeing anything about Night Vision or Ambient Air.

And we don't seem to be getting any rear seating luxury items from the 7 series like I was hoping for. The large theater screen, or luxury rear seating with extra plush seats or such. Will have to wait to see what the XM ends up with.
Honestly it seems to me like BMW is heading for making the 7 series their flagship vehicle again! In the form of the i7.

Over the years the 7 series had moved into the backseat position, sharing most of its features and luxuries with X6, 6 series, 8 series and X7. Maybe now they're trying to add some more refinement back to it and differentiation over the remaining lineup.

Can you tell I always had a thing for the 7 series lol

I’m interested to hear about the higher level tune versions of the s68 and b58 that will follow.

It seems very clearly that the S68 is really just an N63 with a 48V MH system. Output is exactly the same as the current version.

I want to hate it, but the M60 is essentially a GLS 63 rival for $50K less.

A lot of posters hated the X7 when it debuted in 2019. Many eventually came to love it and it's huge grill. The same will happen with this facelift. Bet on it.
