My sales guy keeps saying "I don't sell it".. :(

So I placed order about 1month ago with normal factory options.. then I come to e90post and learn about great things.. so I decided to give a call to my sales person to get quotes for alarm/chrome exhaust/extended maint.

Basically what he says is, "I don't sell it, so you have to talk to Finance officer (for maint.) or Service Advisor for alarm price". I get feeling that he doesn't want to deal with me on those prices and using this as excuses. He did say that alarm is $750 but I could try to talk to Service advisor if I want lower price...

I know it's minor, but it's just bothering me.. Should I just call up other dealers around area for quotes of these dealer installation items?

If he doesn't want your money, take it elsewhere. The chrome tips you would definately get from Parts, but your SA should be willing to help you with the transaction. If he wants his 5s, that is. . .

your sales guy sells cars, not accesories

if you want an accesory you should talk to the parts dept, or order it on the net somewhere.

The parts guys are the guys who could negotiate on price for accesories

ture to what you are saying, but he should still be helping you out. SA should do what they can to keep you happy, they are the one making the money(that why they are in sales)

The sales guy probably doesn't get paid on accesories, bottom line that's why he/she doesn't seem interested in helping you out.

thanks for the feedback. My point was that I'm buying the car as a package, and should have one contact which to deal all the business side.. I could care less how the profit is divided within the dealership.

well I guess I should deal directly with service department to negotiate on the price... is this even possible ? (trying to lower their service price?)

The prices are most certainly negotiable...Most service departments will discount you 10% for parts and labor, or at least that's something your client advisor should help you out with since you just purchased a car from him. But in this case, I see that he's not interested in helping you out in the entire car purchase.

I understand that he's not making much or anything from the purchase of an alarm or extended warranty, but the dealer sure is! So I agree with you in the sense that they should make the purchase experience as smooth as possible and not leaving it to you to search. Something to think about when those BMWNA survey people call...

Yup...if you're in San Jose, there are a lot of dealers. I really don't like BMW of SF or Peter Pan...I'd never give a dime to either. I bought my last m3 from Concord and they were really straight...NO BS pricing.

I hope the 750 for the alarm includes install. I've been quoted 300 + 200 for install.

But also, my car is pre-wired for alarm. I'm thinking I may do the diy approach since there is a good write up in the forum.

I was thinking the same thing, buying the kit mail order from Circle BMW. But I believe you still have to go in to the dealer to have the alarm activated, even if you do the install yourself. My concern is that the dealer will charge an arm and a leg for the activation, or else give me the run around for not letting them do the installation.

I just got a factory sealed BMW alarm system for $189 on eBay. Now the same seller has 2 listings starting at $.01 without any reserve.
eBay #'s 7992543439 & 7992543446.

They also sell chrome tips starting at $40 for 2.

I think that your salesperson ought to be able to deliver your car exactly how you want it (alarm, tint, exhaust trim, etc).

You might save money doing it on your own, so since he is reluctant to get involved, spending a little time doing it on your own may save you some bucks at the expense of your convenience. Many owners would opt for the convenience of having all the accessories installed prior to delivery, but since it doesn't appear he is really willing to do that, I guess you can take some pleasure in knowing you will probably pay less for the parts independently.

Maybe go and talk to the service manager and see if he/she will quote you a price for parts and labor, and then ask if he/she would mind if you got the parts on your own and had them do the installation. I doubt the dealership would mind installing BMW parts even if you didn't get them at that same dealership. Just check on how much they want to charge you for installation first.

After all the suggestions, I feel alot better. I will look into buying the parts separately and having them installed by some dealer.

Does all new US spec e90 325i come with alarm system pre-wired? I read through DIY alarm install and it seems straight forward...

Thanks for the note, I'll make sure that I have slotted rear light dome when I pick up the car!
